And so BattleField 2142 not only has ingame adware, but spyware too, which is reportedly only for checking how often what adverts are viewed and what you do ingame, but if history has told us anything it's that you let a large corporation get away with monitoring one aspect of computer usage and they'll soon be monitoring two aspects... then three ( Read more... )

Yea, my dad got one hell of a shock about ingame adware from a game he got cheap. It immediately tried to make our modem dial up to Virgin Net and took the better part of a day to remove. Now here's hoping they don't try it with the next gen console games.

Console games are a different kettle of fish all together. Consoles are designed specifically for game use, they're highly restricted in what you can do with them and as such they monitor it when it's connected to the net anyway (for example if you used a chipped Xbox on XboxLive your console, IP and info would be blacklisted from it) and the modern consoles don't have modems, only network/broadband support, so dialing out just doesn't happen ( ... )

damn adware and spyware, when are they goning to get the idea, that no one wants to be watched, not even a little bit.

Tell you what, we should find a way to DOS through adware and spyware. That would be so much fun.
