what goes in a cover letter when you're applying for a job? you know you want to send me one to look at. :)

make sure the cover letter attracts the reader's attention. the resume is where they're going to see the nitty gritty, so you don't need to summarize your qualifications in the cover letter... more of a "i really really want to work for you because..."

successful cover letters for me have started with the following sentences:
"I want to be your code monkey."
"I was thrilled when I saw the opportunity _____"

when i was writing a cover letter earlier this year, my dad said exacgtly what steve did. make it tailored to the job and highlight your specific qualifications for that job in the letter. they can get the details from your resume but pain them a picture about your interpretation of the job, why you want the job and why they want you for the job. if you want to see my letter, give me your email addy and i'll send it to you :)
