i just had to walk out of my peru orientation meeting because i couldn't stop coughing. i haven't gotten noticeably better in the past week. i've never had spring allergies before, but i guess it's possible that i'm allergic to things here and not at home... if that's the case, i might cry. i am almost completely out of commission, and i don't ( Read more... )

I don't actually have allergies like I mentioned in the first, but I wanted to answer the second. I never had any problems with allergies anywhere, but then I came here. And people told me, oh don't be silly. You're in Cville now!

... Yay.

see, this surprises me. because back home, i've seen pollen so thick it turns cars yellow. here, i haven't seen any pollen at all. so how could it be worse??

i'm still kind of hoping it's a virus and will go away...

Oh, there is TOTALLY pollen here. Like whoa. My car, which is normally dark blue with greenish hues, was yellowy-green for a couple years due to the pollen here (and to me being too lazy/cheap to get it washed often enough :P). Finally gave it a really good cleaning a couple months back, and people (if Aprotim counts as plural) barely recognized it ( ... )

from reports I've heard from both people who usually have terrible allergies, and those who have never had spring allergies, Virginia is more or less equivilent to hell this spring. My friend Connor--who in NoVA frequently missed school in the spring because his eyes were swollen shut--is so dead in C-Ville this year that he can't even breathe. My sister, who has never had allergies before, is absolutely dying in NoVA, so more or less, I think it's terrible everywhere for some reason, most likely the really mild winter.

By 'way worse in NoVA' i mean 'worse than anywhere else ever in Winchester/the Shenandoah Valley.'

have you spent time in cville for comparison?

i've never had allergies before, ever. what i've got now has completely knocked me on my ass. if this is allergies, i went from zero to deadly when i went from no va to here. i'm trying to figure out if that's possible or likely.

There are some over the counter allergy medication that used to be perscription that you might try (I think clariton-D might be over the counter now) but if not, try sudafed. Sudafed is a god send.
