Crumpet had taken to sleeping on my arm. Since the air is so dry in winter and I have a slight cat allergy, this lead to xerosis and then cellulitis.
There wasn't enough in the blood samples to get a culture. It responded pretty quickly to a penicillin variant (I forget which), so they didn't bother to take a biopsy.
It was spreading pretty quickly before treatment, though. I clocked it moving down my arm at nearly an inch an hour. They took some xrays to look for gas bubbles, on the small chance it was some sort of necrotizing fasciitis. Needless to say, I got a little freaked when they mentioned that as a possibility.
I'm taking a generic version of Augmentin to control the infection. I also finagled some ammonium lactate cream as a moisturizer.
