Chapter Nineteen

I quietly walked up the stairs towards Jack’s office. After a long day I had managed to get all the filing and some cleaning done. My talk at the pub with James had been fun, with both us talking about various things. To hear him being completely honest about his love for Captain Emmett Kingston had been very relieving but I assured him that he would come to his senses and talk to Jack.

“Sir, I’m going home now,” I said at the entrance of his office. Jack looked up his desk.

“Ok, see you in the morning,” Jack replied with a sigh. I walked over to his desk.

“Are you ok?” I asked, stopping at the edge of the desk. He shrugged and picked up a piece of paper, “Seriously you can talk to me.”

“There’s nothing to talk about,” He replied, his eyes still on the piece of paper, “Have a good night and I’ll see you in the morning.”

I decided not to argue and left him to it. I was just about to leave when Jack called out again.

“Emmett’s decided to come and see me, are you alright with that?”

I turned around and smiled, “Of course, he wants advice on James and gay relationships, there is no way anything will happen between you two.”

Jack raised an eyebrow.

“Let’s just say I know how James feels about him,” I said and left the office causing a stunned look on Jack’s face.

The Italian restaurant was quiet for a Friday night when we arrived. There was only a few couples and families either sitting inside or outside in the fairly cool night. When we were seated, Damien offered to pay for the drinks but I refused saying it was my treat. He smiled and picked up the menu.

“Come on, you always pay for everything,” Damien whined, “Please just let me pay for the drinks.”

“Not when I’m the one taking you to dinner,” I replied with a smile, “If you were the one then it would be different.”

Damien smirked, “I don’t think I have ever done that,” He replied.

I shrugged, “You brought me a beer once.”

“Yeah at the start of our friendship,” Damien replied rather amused, “Since then you’re the one who’s taken me out to the movies, dinner and other things and paid for it all.”

“You’re my friend,” I protested.

“I know though we haven’t really spent time with each other since you moved here,” Damien replied with a laugh, “Good job on being best man by the way.”

“Thanks; I didn’t think I’ll piss off Olivia so much,” I replied with a smirk, “I’m sorry that I brought up how we met.”

“Hey, the best man’s job is to give a speech, it was bound to come up,” Damien assured me, “So um how’s work?”

“Fine, been busy a lot,” I replied with a smile, “Went on a sex binge for a week which was caused by the bipolar.”

Damien put down the menu and looked at me with a very confused face. I started to hear his thoughts full of worry and confusion.

“Would you mind telling me what made you depressed?” He asked, now seeming very tense.

So I told him about what had happened between Emmett and I. How it had made me depressed for three days before going on the sex binge because I felt really happy. I didn’t leave out the bit about accidently shooting Jack as well as Damien knew about Torchwood. I had told him at the wedding and he didn’t seem to care, well a little overwhelmed but he said there was no way he was going to tell Olivia. The only problem was that I had to keep it from Jack.

Damien was quiet as he listened. When I had finished he stood up and walked around to give me a hug from the back.

“Well no wonder, he’s from the 1940s, if I’m correct then it was illegal,” Damien replied while hugging me, “Do you want me to talk to him?”

“No, for some reason I have the feeling he’s going to speak to Jack,” I told him with a smile, “He knows more about the subject than we do.”

Damien nodded and sat back down in his chair, “I’ve been waiting for you to finally fall in love with a man.”

“Really, why?” I asked rather puzzled.

Damien smiled and picked up his menu, “So I can say that I’m glad that you are finally comfortable with your bisexuality.”

I picked up my menu, “Alright you can pay for the drinks.”

Damien laughed, “Thanks, is it true that you woke up to find Emmett naked in the kitchen?”

My face went bright red.
