My friend Lawrence (who as white as white can be) always made a big deal that he was black because there were these immigrants from Spain who moved to Ireland and intermarried... their kids were called the "black Irish," because they had an Irish parent but had the darker Spanish skin. Lawrence was like a seventh-generation descendent of them folks. Crazy, no?
