Well when I put letters on my shirt I did the silkscreen method w/ acrylic paint I think.

I've made my own clothing before by sewing at the most I cut sleeves or this and that off from my store bought clothes nothing too drastic.

I made this shirt with my friend Xane for our friend Gigi's birthday. We bought a boy's tshirt, took in the sides a bit, painted the blue circle and cut out the continents, peace sign, & "Gigi" text. We glued the stuff on with fabric glue and then sewed around the edges.

fabric paint!
Acrylic paint may work, but if you use too much, it can become hard and crack over time (I painted this really awesome cartoon dragon on a sweatshirt once, but it didn't last because the paint cracked :(!)I think there is a liquid that you can add to acrylic to make it more fabric-friendly, though.

silk screening is the only way to do it, imo. all the other methods look horrific after a few washes.

Oops! Had to delete that last one cus I did not realize how huge that picture was haha.
One of my favorite things to do is go thrift shopping and buy big awesome shirts and cut them to fit me. I tried actually making my own clothes but I'm reallllly not good at that.
