I've started watching Heroes these past few weeks, since ninth Doctor Christopher Eccleston started on it, like the little Doctor Who obsessive that I am.
Behind the cut are my impressions and spoilers for episodes up to
last night.
It took a while for the first episode to grab me, being that i knew nothing about the show other than that there's these people with superpowers and yet they aren't the tight-wearing type. And that the Doctor was going to be on it. By the end I cared about Hiro, because I could immediately see that Hiro is made of awesome. All the other plot strings paled before Hiro. Eccleston came in as Claude at the last minute, so I didn't know where they were going yet with him (and as such my brain defaulted to 'why hasn't the Doctor been shaving recently?'). And everyone else I was severely meh about.
I am still pretty meh about everyone except Hiro and Claude. Crying!Cheerleader girl keeps my interest, since she doesn't seem so hung up about her powers. She has bigger things to worry about, I guess.
I have a problem with seeing actors as their first character that really struck me, so this show is fun to watch purely on a 'Hey, the Doctor just threw someone off a building! Rock!' level.
And the show is so, so geeky, especially with the Hiro plot.
They're even trying with the science. But still, as to last night I have to say, radioisotope tracers just do not work like that. Scary Paper Company would be much better off on the tracking-people gig if they implanted people with little satellite transponders like those on radio collars. Or handwavey gps or rfid tech. But radioisotopes? No. Just no.
If this research thing doesn't work out, I should totally be a science advisor to Hollywood.
