The "Boycott Sochi 2014" campaign has now tumultuously spread to Russian Vodka and Russian products in general, as a result I am becoming increasingly homophobic

I love my country but your criticism is spot on. And I'm not an isolationist (I still think taking out Sadam and his child rapist sons was the best thing America has done for the world so far this century - despite the mishandled aftermath) but we can be really obnoxious sticking our collective noses into other countries' business. Sorry about that.
On a lighter note, maybe you should go full out for satire's sake - start your own "there can be no equality until straight men have sex with me!" campaign. ;)
Whenever I post one of these rants and see someone has left a comment I immediately feel mean for being opinionated.
I LOVE your country too. Geographically speaking it is the most beautiful place I have ever been and my American friends make up some of the greatest people I have ever met.
But... I disagree that the "entire world" benefitted from Sadam's death as much as I disagree that America was responsible for it. The gulf war was a global effort spearheaded by an ignorant power hungry American, yet when it came to fighting many countries are responsible for the war and the mishandled aftermath. America doesn't need to take the blame for all that, but shouldn't take all the credit either.
I good example of American obnoxiousness is; "If it wasn't for us you would all be speaking German now". Ugh! If it wasn't for the Brits you guys would all be butchering some other countries language! ;))
Your last point is genius, why didn't I think of that? Of course this will only be successful with volunteers... *cough*
Excellent points all. And thank you for remembering that the gulf war included a large coalition of nations, we Americans tend to think it was just us and maybe the Brits tagged along, in a huge slap in the face to the Pols, Aussies, and others who died there.
Sorry, I didn't mean to imply removing Sadam benefitted the whole world. And certainly you can argue that the torture and rape committed by the regime is, on net, less than the misery the Iraqis experience now. Still, if I could change one thing, it would be the aftermath, not the decision to remove Sadam and his sons. I understand this is not a popular opinion, especially outside the US. Generally, however, and in most other cases, I am against international intervention.
People from all nationalities are still dying there. Up to now there have been 3,270 war casualties in Afghanistan and this number does not include civilian casualties.
I wouldn't like to say whether this is an improvement on the fatalities caused by Sadam's regime.
Popular opinion is (sadly) made up through Fox News headlines
I shared the article on Facebook because I was thrilled that I wasn't the only person who found this entire boycott absurd. But also because I have received a fair amount of abuse from the gays for wanting to go to Russia. Plus, I have gay Russian friends who I am also connected with on FB and I wanted them to know they are being considered. That's the biggest mistake people are making, they are only considering how great they are, not the actual people that matter

Yup! This is so true and so frustrating because I find it so hard to simply walk away. An American recently said to me "Wales isn't a country, Dumbass. It's a fish!". I wrote a huge venomous response then randomly checked his YouTube profile before sending. HE WAS 12 YEARS OLD! I headdesked so hard my eyebrows are still in Australia.
I have some Gin at home. G & T with ice and a slice is delicious in the summer. Gin also contains less calories than any other drink. I still prefer bourbon though.
I say we boycott Bourbon until same sex marriage is recognized in Kentucky and Tennessee. ;))
Every time I read an Onion article I blindly forget that it is a satire and get myself all worked up for nothing. For the same reason this disappointed me.
