I don't know about her specifically, but I recall hearing that US Presidential Candidate be in Republican or Democrat pick incompetent Vice Presidents to lower the risk that their own side will consider it viable to get rid of them as President. It's a Presidential self-defence mechanism to pick someone more useless than you are.

But maybe that's a needlessly cynical rumour.

I understand the "vice president should not upstage the president" thing, but she or he also should not negatively impact how the team is viewed, especially if it is expected to carry another election for the party.

Almost certainly yes. But then what is the job description for a Vice President?

Whatever it is, it probably includes as a minimum not being universally viewed as a failure and bad at your job. Especially if you'll have to carry another election for your party.

She is a bit awkward and vague on the mic, but does this alone justify the increasing feeling that she is an absolute catastrophe? I mean, the VP's job is just to be there and say obvious things anyway.

She's not actually terrible, but she's fighting an uphill battle in the current political climate.

She wasn't a particularly stellar politician in California, before she got picked for Veep (not particularly stellar in that she was more on law enforcement's side of things than many people wanted), but she's pretty much middle of the road.

People really really want to hate her, though.

I think that at the very least that job must include not being viewed as a failure and bad at that job, especially when you will have to carry another election for the party.

So the entire job is just looking like you’re not doing badly at the job, even though there is no job to be good or bad at.

Politics are stupid

Fwiw I haven’t heard anything about Kamela being bad at her job, nor has my partner who is in the car with me, and he actually pays attention to the news.
