First of all, not everyone is into every aspect of the fandom.

Secondly, he didn't mention -women- in there at all from what I read, and we are a growing part of it.

Third- A lot of people I know in the fandom are actually very well off and holding jobs well.

4. Some of the furry art I've seen has been the most beautiful stuff ever. I know that it's not to everyone's liking, but hell, I like it, not all of it.

If this guy was a furry at any point, why? I am under the impression 'you are into what you are into as long as nobody gets hurt' as well as the 'don't like it, don't look at it.'

Honestly this struck a nerve.

it kinda did with me as well. since like half hte furry fandom has jobs, an real lives. they all dont have sex with dogs, and they all dont sit at their computers 24/7. i know furries with phds, and 6 figure a year jobs. doesnt make sense to me to rationalize the whole fandom into one dirtball when that isnt the case at all.

Even going to AC I discovered there are so many facets to the fandom. I was talking to a doctor for a good half an hour, and realized that he was part of the convention - a babyfur ( ... )

I'm playing devil's advocate here, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Interestingly enough, he's not slamming costuming at all. Heck, the preface of it tells us he's a costume maker, and just finished sending out a few commissions.

Moreover, the part about "public vs you", he mentions being in costume and that the stares weren't at him, but at those wearing not a costume but clothing/trappings associated to the fandom. He hasn't forgotten about what it's like to dress up for halloween. But I doubt many trickertreating kids put on a tail, ears, a t-shirt of a wolf in a suggestive pose, and a leash.

Honestly, guilt by association isn't as strong if you don't let it be. That is, act like a cool nonscary person, people will treat you like a cool nonscary person, in or out of costume. Yes, context plays a part, but even the general public can make the distinction.

Fun! I have no comment. The diatribe speaks volumes. :D

it does.. but it is right to say that about the fandom when its not true about everybody?

The fairness matters not. The guy made himself sound like an idiot. Bigoted, assuming that people aren't "successful" unless they make 60k, when the median income of the country is more around 40... the guy's a nut job. To debate his rantings give them power, and I'm not gonna do that.

i thought you were agreeing with him when you said that. i think that is does make him sound like an ass an a nut job. but at the same time, is some of that true? maybeh we as a fandom shuold work towards tryin not to make asses of ourselves as well...

I wanna make up bullshit facts too, and I never knew that the more you swear the more factual your information is, lol.

I'm bored of these bottom tiered haters that have earned the 6th grade education that they use none of when arguing.

Recent studies have shown that ninety percent of furries are broke or a

Brought to us by......?

Someone has drama issues XD Until they get themselves figured out they don't have much of a right to go bitchin about somethin else. But hey, thats the world we live in.

50% of furries are perfectly well off an live normal lives. he seems to think that he can just lump us all together.

I don't want to be a nit-picking bastard, but where do you pull 50% from? is there a furry census taken? I certainly didn't fill out a questionaire >.>

50% sounds better.. but there's a whole mess to trying to calculate it out. There is a large number of furs in the 16 and under group that don't even have jobs. Do they count into this overall percentage? do their parents' incomes count?

I honestly think it would be VERY interesting to see the actual numbers.

Yeah, well, 95% of statistics are made up, anyways.

Also: Google provides! Linky.

Income and employment figures aren't given, but still, rather interesting.

That's funny. Since when did $60k a year become borderline poverty?

I live pretty damn well on much less than that.

Aren't you also in a communal situation where you have other people chipping in though? I'm renting an apartment.. i can barely think of getting a car at 40k/yr
