snapcat just quit Werner and with good reason... they really don't value any employees there. The only thing I would say is that he got his foot in the door in the trucking business. But he got no vacation, worked 12 hour + days and was pushed around like crazy. So as a last resort, use them to get a better job.
I have been told by several people that Swift puts governors on their trucks so you can't speed. Personally I think you should consider May trucking. When I worked in Utah May was the only company that didn't pay lumping fees on their trucks, took paletized loads and was organized. Their website is impressive too. http://www.maytrucking.com/
I started at Werner and worked there for 3 years. I drove a somewhat local route for them where I was home every night. Now I drive a 48' reefer for Panera Bread making way more money and working less hours than I was at Werner. Basicly, they all suck, and they all will suck for you. Deal is you just have to suck it up, and hold tight for at least a year, then you can get a much better job with just about anyone else out there. TransAm has auto trucks... at least they did 3 years ago.
Best thing about starting out.. if you join one company, work for a couple weeks then want to quit, another company will hire you up right away. cant do that too many times starting out though or else you wont get the training you need not to mention ya wont be making any $.
I wish I could suggest a specific one to you, but all I know about is Werner. It will be tough and a pain in the ass, but nothing worth while is easy.
oh.. and home weekends just starting out? you will be lucky to get home once every month.
