No barbecue? Nuuuuuuuuu!

What would summer be without barbecue? I guess it's a good thing enforcement moves at a glacial pace in China.

Harbin to Ban Outdoor BBQ this Summer?Last week, Heilongjiang province announced its intentions to strengthen policies on the prevention of air pollution and cleanup of urban spaces in 2018. Unfortunately however, it looks like our ( Read more... )

Sorry to hear it, but I know that they've had remarkable success in improved air quality in Beijing with their restrictions, which is badly needed.

I really wish they had vehicle emission inspection in New Mexico, I was behind one such (what I call) coal burner a couple of weeks ago. But they only inspect in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. They don't care that the rest of the state contributes to global pollution, just that those two areas have big problems.

Yes, well, there is no Arizona, so maybe the areas of New Mexico that aren't in the two big cities also don't exist. ;)

I'm not certain on my memory, as it was a VERY long time ago, but as I recall, when I was growing up in AZ, and they introduced vehicle emissions inspection, it was only in Phoenix and Tucson. I assume it's spread state-wide.

I remember a '75 Toyota Corolla GT that we bought from my Dad's cousin, he lived in Gallup and we met him in Flagstaff. It couldn't pass emissions until we ripped off all of the emission control equipment and slapped a high-performance Weber carb on it. It was a true rice rocket.

The other story of that car, aside from it being my first car accident and first speeding ticket (IIRC), and first (and hopefully only) thrown rod, was that my dad thought that I already knew how to drive a stick. I did not. So he throws me in to the driver's seat in Flagstaff, which you may know is rather hilly, and has me start driving. It was not a pleasant experience, being thrown literally in the deep end.

I also don't swim well, so don't literally throw me in the deep end. :-)

BTDT. My dad decided to teach me in his very picky Jeep Wrangler, on I-80, with trucks barrelling down on me at the highest speed they could go, in order to get f***-all out of Wyoming as fast as they could. Not a good place to be trying to find the sweet spot where you can release the clutch without stalling the car.
