Be careful about falling in love with a feature on your street which is completely out of your control.

I wonder if they all are the same age, and are falling prey to age or disease all at the same time.

Our neighborhood is lined with silver maples, all the same age. We are convinced that when they start to go, our neighborhood will be denuded.

You are very astute! All of these trees were planted at the same time, when the street was built, around 1980.

We live in a planned community, where cutting trees is supposed to be highly discouraged. Alas, it turns out these trees were never supposed to be planted (they are on the list of No-No trees), so anyone can just chop em down any time. Our immediate neighbor did theirs last year so I knew it would start a cascade.

I just wish I had known when I moved in. It might not have changed my choices, but I wouldn't have allowed myself to get so attached. I'm very good at self-programming to avoid disappointment!
