I'm enjoying your travel reports...and just went to Google maps to see *where* Andong was, exactly. :-) I don't know if I missed it, but what is your travel itinerary, exactly? This is just a for fun thing, yes, or is it part of your work?
I definitely could not stomach a traditional Korean breakfast, either. ::shudder:: I...yeah. That would be really just too hard.
Today (the 3rd, here), I am heading for Gyeongju, where I stay until the 7th. That day I take a bus to Busan, where I will stay for two nights before catching a plane to Jeju island. I stay in Jeju through Friday the 14th, and return to Seoul on the 15th. I'm *hoping* to do a temple stay in Seoul that night. I remain in the Seoul area (probably back in Anyang, where I lived) on Sunday, and on Monday afternoon (the 17th) I depart for the US.
I really am enjoying reading about your travels.... and I must say, I admire your resolve and ability to navigate in a country where not only is the language not your own, but the language is not based in the Roman alphabet (I guess my thinking being that, although I don't speak French, because it uses the Roman alphabet, I could at least decipher the signage and translate into English).
I'm looking forward to your return to the Bay Area!
It is difficult in many ways, but the phrase book part of the Lonely Planet guide is very helpful, as is the fact that I have learned to read the Korean alphabet. Without those, it would be far worse.
I'm looking forward to being back in the Bay Area, although it probably won't be until December, since I am visiting family in Colorado (and possibly in Europe) after returning to the US.
If pictures didn't take so long to mess with, you'd have them already. As it is, I'm not sure when. If I get lucky enough to get another hotel with a computer in the room, maybe soon. If not (and honestly, I think it's unlikely), probably not until I return to the States, as I don't want to spend hours in a PC Bang uploading pictures during my vacation.
Hey- I KNOW how much hassle it can be to post photos, and you certainly shouldn't be messing with that when you have other interesting things to do! So I'm happy to wait- but I'll enjoy them whenever you have a chance to do it. :)
