Oooh, pretty. :-)

The main thing I took away from the Treasury is that it's possible to make something look very, very, expensive (solid gold, covered in gems, etc.) and still be very, very ugly.

Bwahahahah! So, so true.

Hee! It really is. It just goes to prove that having lots of money doesn't automatically grant good taste.

I rather wish you'd gotten a picture of the hideousness. Also, I bet I could match whatever it was with a modern award-winning piece or 2 with approximately the same sensibility...

Apart from that- wonderful pictures! Thanks so much for posting them, and your commentary! I'm enjoying it a lot.

I think pictures weren't permitted in the Treasury. Or maybe they were and I just didn't take any. Sometimes I just wasn't inspired. Although there are a few ugly things that I do wish I'd gotten a picture of, just so everyone would know I wasn't making it up. Like the ugliest Monet painting in the world, at the Musee Rodin. No one who hasn't seen it would believe that Monet was capable of producing something that ugly.

Mostly the ugly items in the treasury were chalices. Clunky, graceless, huge, ornate, and, well, just plain ugly. Proving that not even shiny gold is always pretty.

And no doubt you're right about modern stuff, too. :)

I currently have a lot more free time than you do, so my getting photos up first is nothing for you to feel bad about, especially as it's taken me as long as it has. Besides, I don't actually have any photo editing software, so everyone just has to live with them as they are, and I don't have to spend time trying to fix my bad framing, etc. Heh.

I'm glad I got one picture of you in an unequivocally Parisian setting. :) You're in my "Oh my god, it's Notre Dame! I'm in Paris!" photo, too, but since it's mostly the back of your head, I'm not sure it counts. Heh.
