So, as some of you on my list may have already noticed, George Carlin died yesterday evening. I first wrote that sentence as "passed away" but given how many of his routines took shots at euphemisms I figured "died" would be a much better word choice. Well said! I understand and agree with everything you said. I've been fairly preoccupied with the whole thing the last several days, reading a lot of news articles about it and reminiscing about his work and how much it has influenced me.

Oddly enough, we started listening to him around the same time and stopped at the same time. I remember thinking he was really getting nasty in some of his routines, and I also didn't much care for it, I just didn't see the point. On the other hand, I had no idea he was dealing with his wife's cancer for several years, so that actually sheds some light on how he evolved as a performer.

Personally, I think his best work is all from the early 70's. Although I enjoy much of his recent work as well, the older routines are classic and just brilliant comedy. Some day, I hope to share the CD's I have with my son; I'm sure they will continue to endure.
