He arrived close to the hive's opening, staring in wonder at the desert around him with the wind whipping at his hair. Places like this did not exist on his world--had not existed. (Past tense poses adjustment difficulties when all one knows is dead and gone in the blink of an eye.) It was lonesome, but beautiful and peaceful. This land worked for him. He easily found his friend as Tavros' horns an unmistakable feature.
"Um, hi," he said uncertainly.
