I saw the show in Norfolk, CT, with the string octet. Tori seems to have grown into her new voice, and was relaxed and cheerful. I was upset that the record had so much vocal doubling, because she does a really nice job with the vocals on stage. The octet rendition of Smokey Joe was really moving and I loved the strings. I also really enjoyed Hey Jupiter. She played Marianne without the strings and I liked it better that way

I'm in Australia, so the chance of any shows is pretty much nil (although she has been here a lot over the last seven years). I'm a little disappointed by the album; I don't feel it adds much to the pre-existing songs. But then I see a link like this and I fall in love all over again...http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=No1_HX_A0V8
I feel lime the live stuff she did with the octet, esp. the NPR broadcast were much, much better than actual Gold Dust, and were some of the best shows I have ever seen by her. I felt like a lot of the arrangements on Gold Dust contributed little to the originals, but the NPR broadcast was A+++++. Esp.Smokey Joe.
