This is my crochet post! I love these Japanese arigurumi - basically cute stuffed animals made from crocheting. I know missy42 wanted to see them if I ever got done with them. My friend's b-day was coming up and I wanted to make her something and I love cats so once I saw this pattern on craftster.org (one of my fav websites out there), I knew it was a ( Read more... )

That makes me happy too... I'm grinning as well!! And can you believe, X3 is going to be out in a couple of days?! I sooo want to see a midnight screening of it, but I don't think I really have anyone to go with. Also you definitely should come visit me on a Saturday sometime :D

Speaking of hooked, I know there's a crochet book called "The Happy Hooker" out there - I thought that was such a funny and clever title. It's by the same person as the Stitch and Bitch Nation. I definitely want her book!

OMG. Do you know? One of my first weeks at the company I'm at now, I saw someone crocheting in our lobby and so I stopped to admire the work. I told her I crocheted, but I had to get back to work (my lunch break was over) so I was just like "Yeah! Happy Hookers!" Maybe a little to loud. Then, like a month later, I see her in the kitchens and she's all "Were you the one who crochets?" and I'm all "Yeah, that's me" and we totally bonded over it.

OMGX3!!!!!!!! I can't wait! And as for not having anyone to go with.....HELLO?! *points to self* God, the movie theatres are going to be PACKED this weekend, though, even if it is a midnight showing. Still, if we could get advanced tickets, I would not hesitate to drive down there and see it with you. At least, I don't think I have anything planned for this weekend.....

P.S. Any chance I could convince you to un-friends lock this post? I want to show off Mr. Neko to....oh, just about everyone I know! If you don't feel comfortable with that, can I at least snag the pictures and put them up on my lj? I'll tell them it's your work, of course!

Thanks Cate! Crocheting is actually not that difficult to learn. Now, knitting to me looks complicated.

I haven't tried either in years. When I did, I was all thumbs at it -- hence how impressed I am with Mr. Neko.

It's not that difficult, once you get the "rhythm" down. Everyone sorta goes at their own pace. I started knitting, but it was going really slow for me. Crochet, I took to almost right away. Maybe it was the teacher I had, because the same people who taught me to knit didn't do so well when they were trying to teach me to crochet.

As for one vs. the other, knitting is somewhat more universal and uses less yarn per stitch. But I prefer crochet because it's easier for me, and I feel like it goes so much faster and you can do a lot more with it. Plus, when you lose a loop or a stitch, it's not nearly as much a mess! But then, there are people who knit who don't catch on to crochet quite as easily. It all depends, I guess.

Too cute! I have never tried to do things with yarn, those diagrams look intimidating... (but "happy hookers"?? hmm... ;))

I know. I'd be hopelessly lost if I were to just follow pictures. It really helps to learn from someone. Once you havae the basics down, I think it just gets easier from there. I only know the basic stiches though - haven't tried those fancy stitches yet, but I think they're just variations on the basic ones.
