IC Information:
Name: Toris Lorinaitis (better and more accurately known as Lithuania/Lietuvos)
Fandom: Axis Powers: Hetalia
Timeline: the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (specifically their Golden Age)
Age: 15-16 give or take (in appearance only)
Appearance:
Don’t let his looks fool you, Lithuania is very much male. But despite that, he’s quite pretty. He has feminine features and a slim build which mask his true strength. His hair is shoulder length and semi-dark brown with a touch of wave to it. He doesn’t have bangs, but some of his hair in the front is sorter than the rest which frames his face very nicely. His eyes are green. But not just normal green, Baltic Sea green. He has a pale complexion, but not overly so. There is actually very little that makes him stand out at first glance.

At this age, the main thing that makes him different than his older self is his lack of scars. During his time with Russia he receives such harsh punishment that his back winds up covered in crisscrossing scars. But as those events have not happened yet, he does not have them. He may have a few small ones, as his life up to this point has been very difficult and Russia has nearly killed him at least once, but nothing like what is to come.

Abilities:
Though he has no special abilities, Liet has multiple lifetimes worth of experience. He is a skilled rider and swordsman. The symbol of ancient Lithuania was a knight on a white horse, the Vytis, and he exemplified that in batter rather well (though his own horse, at least one of the ones we’ve seen, is a chestnut brown color, not white). He has a way with words, as his Renaissance was centered around literature and poetry. He’s a good cook and is more than used to doing household chores and farming.

Personality:
Toris is an odd mix of dominant and submissive characteristics. On the one hand, he takes care of his younger brothers and is hardworking and strong. On the other, he has a hard time standing up to those who hold a position of power over him (case in point; Russia) and prefers to be the ‘lackey’ rather than the leader. As the submissive lackey of the Commonwealth, he often is the one stuck doing all the chores. And while he does complain about that, he always does any and all work left for him.

When it comes to his siblings, he has a bit of a mothering streak. Some would say far more than ‘a bit’. Though they are very different and share little in the way of culture or preferences, he tries to watch out for them. Be it by setting himself up to take punishment for them (again, Russia) or by simply making sure to cook dinner for them. And that carries over to others sometimes as well. Most notably Poland, who is the only one he cares for more than Estonia and Lativa.

Like all Baltic states, he is introverted and can be quite shy. However, once he is used to a person he is very warm and caring to them. He gives his all for these people, even when it hurts him. (This may be why the nation of Lithuania has the ominous record of having the highest suicide rate in the entire world.)

History:
Long ago, a group of people that were part of Germany’s Teutonic Knights revolted and formed a new nation; Lietuvos Respublika. Other nations were created in the same area, and the Baltic states lived in relative peace and prosperity. That is, until Estonia and Latvia were taken away. They have a long history of subjugation, having been passed around from empire to empire. Lithuania, however, was a strong young nation and was able to fight off attackers. He was pursued by the Teutonic Knights relentlessly because of his status as the last remaining pagan nation in Europe. His people were treated horribly for it and the attacks never seemed to stop despite their victories over the knights. So eventually he converted to spare his people further torment.

But the trouble did not end there. Prussia and Russia were both attacking Lithuania. He won against them time after time, but was weakened from the fighting and needed an ally. Which is where his long time friend and ally Poland came in with a brilliant plan. Separate they were vulnerable, but together they were strong. After many unions in which they became close allies, Lithuania and Poland joined together to create the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. In nation terms, they were married. They took back Estonia and Latvia, though they eventually were challenged by Sweden and his ‘wife’ Finland for them. The result of this challenge was a mostly peaceful partial-custody.

They were a major European superpower of the time, partially for their military might but mostly because they were farmers. The two of them tended their fields, though Lithuania did most of the work, and were happy. But others wanted to take their lands from them still. They clashed with Russia many times, but could not be beaten. They even were able to conquer and capture Moscow. They had a parliament, a senat, and an elected king. This ‘unique for the times’ political system was called Golden Liberty, and they were well known for freedom and religious tolerance.

Their power began to decline when they lost some of their lands, an area that would later be Ukrain, to Russia. Shortly after, they were attacked by the Swedish army yet again, but they still survived. Even as internal conflicts further weakened their power, they held strong. Taking advantage of the situation, Russia and Prussia formed an alliance with Austria, the Black Eagles, and the three of them attacked the Commonwealth. It was one battle that they had no chance of winning.

And now a faster overview of the remainder of Lithuanian history (up till Soviet Union times but before the Baltic Way, I had this written out for another game and just wanted to enlighten you ;3 ) which I will not be focusing on as it is after my timeline. - Russia spared Poland, allowing his allies to partition the territory, but took Lithuania with him. He also conquered the Baltic nations Estonia and Latvia. Those three nations became part of the Soviet Union and lived under Russian rule. After World War 1, Lithuania was very poor so 1/3 the population had to go find work in America. Toris worked in Alfred’s house for quite a while, and he was very happy there. Since he is so hardworking and kind, Alfred was very glad to have him around as well. (Incidently, during his time there he made friends with many aliens who live in Alfred’s house.) Unfortunately all good things must end. The Great Depression hit and Liet returned to Russia, his shot at a better life, and possibly the road to independence, lost.

Lithuania has never given up the dream for independence, and he suffers greatly for it. His back is crisscrossed with scars given to him by Russia and he had been used and humiliated in nearly every way. He was even forced to wear a maid’s outfit on at least one occasion. What Liet desires most in the world is to return to his happy life in the rye fields with Poland, Estonia, and Latvia. But Russia needs the Baltic nations, especially Liet who is his favorite, or else he would be alone with General Winter and his very insane sister. So he does anything and everything he can to keep them.

Roleplay Sample - Log:

Well, at least they had seen fit to give him back his sword. There was no light, no food, precious little water, and horrifying monsters around every turn ... but at least he had his sword again. So the doctor’s weren’t completely heartless. Just fond of cruel and unusual punishment the likes of which Liet thought they deserved to have tested out on them for a change.

By now he had learned not to question the whys and hows of what occurred in this place. So there were monsters. Best not to sit around and dwell on where they came from and what possible repercussions their existence in the multiverse may have for his home and instead focus on just surviving their attacks. And on keeping the others out of danger as best he could, but that was always difficult. A knight could only do so much, even when armed. With his partner, he might do better. He wasn’t used to fighting alone anymore. He and Poland led armies on the battlefield and fought others of their kind together, matching blades and wits against old foes. But Poland wasn’t around at the moment, and that left him at a greater disadvantage.

Step one of the plan; find his partner and backup. Step two ... well he wasn’t too clear on step two yet, but it involved killing monsters. Probably a lot of monsters. It was going to be a long week.

Roleplay Sample - Journal:
[The video feed cuts on, showing a young brunet. With the shoulder-length hair and pretty face, it’s impossible to be sure if this is a boy or a girl, though the person in question is in fact male. His clothing shows that he’s from a time very long ago, back when everything was made by hand, and while it is indicative of a simple farmer it’s still good quality. He’s obviously confused, having never seen a room like this before and lacking any idea of how he came to be where he is now. He sees the faciliberry and picks it up, inspecting the device.]

What sort of witchcraft is this?

Be it by setting himself up to take punishment for them (again, Russia) or by simply making sure to cook dinner for them. And that carries over to others sometimes as well.

The only person Liet cares about more than his siblings is Poland. He is very dedicated to his partner and will follow him anywhere regardless of the risks. Though he will show and voice his irritation at the blond's antics frequently, it is not true anger. He is truly devoted and loyal.

Like all Baltic states, he is introverted and can be quite shy. However, once he is used to a person he is very warm and caring to them. He gives his all for these people, even when it hurts him. (This may be why the nation of Lithuania has the ominous record of having the highest suicide rate in the entire world.)

What your character can offer:
Though he has no special abilities, Liet has multiple lifetimes worth of experience. He is a skilled rider and swordsman. The symbol of ancient Lithuania was a knight on a white horse, the Vytis, and he exemplified that in batter rather well (though his own horse, at least one of the ones we’ve seen, is a chestnut brown color, not white). He has a way with words, as his Renaissance was centered around literature and poetry. He’s a good cook and is more than used to doing household chores and farming.

What items will they be bringing with them?
His sword, certainly, will be with him. Also a simple leather bag to carry supplies. In said bag are; a pair of work gloves, a sewing needle and thread, a water skin (or some other similar water container), his rosary, and a small loaf of rye bread (just because, you know it's cute). Clothing is only what he's got on, which is a basic outfit suitable for fieldwork and a simple traveling cloak.

Third-Person Sample:

Well, at least they had seen fit to give him back his sword. There was no light, no food, precious little water, and horrifying monsters around every turn ... but at least he had his sword again. So the twisted individuals that had brought him and everyone else here weren’t completely heartless, just fond of cruel and unusual punishment the likes of which Liet thought they deserved to have tested out on them for a change.

He had a plan. Step one, find his partner and backup. Step two, find and secure shelter. Step three, gather as many people as possible into said shelter and protect them. It seemed like a perfect plan given the situation. A shrill scream, not familiar but clearly terrified, from somewhere in the distance derailed his train of thought and the plan went right out the window. Before he was even aware of it, he was running towards the source of the sound. No matter the possible danger to himself, he could not allow someone to face the horrors this world was throwing at them alone.

First-Person Sample:
[Liet has turned the video and is looking at the screen as he walks. It's more a sense of restlessness than an actual need to be somewhere that has him on the move. If his pace didn't make that clear, the wistful, almost depressed expression on his face would do so.]

It's been so long since I saw my home. I know I shouldn't complain, there are always those who are worse off, but still ... I do miss it. It should be harvest season about now.

[He sighs sadly, looking away from the screen. Though it's still recording, he's not really paying attention to it anymore.]

If only we could be back home ... all of us together ... in the rye.

[Liet stops short, stunned by something just off camera. He kneels and sets the communicator on the ground. Though the angle is odd, you can still make out what it is that has caught his attention. A tiny yellow flower growing out of the broken concrete of the sidewalk. He touches it very gently, careful to not hurt it, and smiles.]

Yra dar vilties.*

((* Lithuanian - there's still hope))

Extra Note to the Mods: My mother is going in to the hospital for back surgery on Monday. I am going to stay with her both then and when she gets back home until she's better. I may have internet at the hospital and I may not, I can't be sure. So if this app gets processed quickly, I will not be able to actually post anything other than a quick ooc hello until I have secure net. I reeeeeally hope they have wireless, because I'd be set, but if not ... well, ya. It's kind of a problem. I'm very sorry, and if I need to just take this app down and put it back up in a few days I will do so.

Though they are not nearly as bad as they will be in later years, his back is patterned with crisscrossing scars. They are the result of Russia's punishment. A few of these are very new, since he received them because of his part in the November Uprising of 1831. Russia's form of discipline is merciless, but it has not broken Lithuania's strong spirit.

(new)
Thanks to his time with Russia, he's become more skittish than he used to be. He is quick to try and please people, because he knows what may happen if he doesn't. Yet he has also become more rebellious with the years. It is not uncommon for him to attempt to escape, either with help or alone, when he simply can not take anymore. Yet his attempts never work, and his submissive nature takes over as a form of self-preservation.

History:
(from previous Facility application)

Which is where his long time friend and ally Poland came in with a brilliant plan (new strips contradict what previous strips said and imply that it was a decision made by both Poland and Lithuania's leaders who sprung it on their young nations one day). Russia spared Poland, allowing his allies to partition the territory, but took Lithuania with him. He also conquered the Baltic nations Estonia and Latvia. They became simply territories of Imperial Russia, and were put to work as servants in Ivan's house. He treated them harshly, enforcing a high standard of conduct and quality of work. If these standards were not met, the punishment was brutal. Though Lithuania briefly held hope that he might wind up a recognized territory and gain a bit of freedom, this did not happen. So when Napoleon and his army came, they were welcomed as liberators. This also was a hope that wound up dashed.

This defiance, as you can guess, was not tolerated well. Such began the Russification
of Lithuania. His language, as well as Poland's which was commonly used there at the time, was replaced with Russian. In a few short years it would be completely banned. His religion was a focus of attack as well, as people were told to convert to the Russian Orthodox faith. The movement was designed to replace the Lithuanian culture, as well as that of other nations under Russia's control. However, it sparked rebellion. Poland, who was under Russian martial law at the time, and Lithuania joined forces to break free. They fought as best they could, but against such overwhelming odds they were crushed in less than a year. But they did not stop there. Thirty years later, a short time for nations, they tried again. They fought together, using the ideals of the Commonwealth combined with guerrilla warfare, but could not last. Many who had gone against the Russian government were exiled to Siberia, a fate some say was worse than death.

I am taking him from during this uprising, so I'll stop here.

Roleplay Sample - Log:

Few things in the world could surprise Lithuania. Well that's what he'd thought anyway. But this place was doing its best to prove him wrong at every turn. Some things were understandable. Technology had advanced very far in the time he'd been alive, and he knew it would make great strides in the future. So why couldn't collars like the one he now wore suppress special powers? Even what they said this place was, a building floating in space, wasn't entirely unbelievable. Magic was not out of the realm of possibility either. It made him remember his childhood, when he'd talked with fairies and believed that spells and hexes could be cast by those with knowledge of the realm beyond. Yet … some of the things he'd now seen were far beyond even his imagination. And this was certainly one of them.

He'd spent much of his life hearing comments about his appearance, both good and bad, and how he looked like a girl. Still, he'd never expected to actually be one. At least he wasn't alone, most people seemed to be affected similarly. But still, this was crossing a line. Appearance aside, he was male. Or rather, he was supposed to be male. The fact that he enjoyed cooking and cleaning didn't mean he wasn't manly, despite what some people said. And the switch to his wardrobe was adding insult to injury. Did they have to put him in a maid's dress?

Roleplay Sample - Journal:
[The video starts up and the person holding the faciliberry looks rather surprised by that fact. It's a brunet with green eyes who may be familiar to some of the residents. However, he's not completely the same. Though it is the same person, he's a few years older and wiser. He calms himself down quickly.]

So that does turn it on … I don't know how I knew that.

Eeh, if anyone can see this, could you please tell me where I am? Last thing I remember, I was … [He hesitates. Saying that he was in an abandoned building with a bunch of rebels might not be a good idea.] Well I was far away from here. And I need to get back as soon as possible.

Questions? Comments? Crazed and creative statements? Those go here.
He's back~! I know we can do memories or not, and wanted to know if I could do vague memories. Like, how to work the 'berry and a sense of having been in this place before even though he doesn't really remember it.
