Pairings: Eames/Arthur
Warnings: Mentions of war and PTSD
Summary: In deserts, wheat fields, and rose gardens, Eames finds Arthur and shakes off the remnants of war. AU, very vaguely based on The Little Prince.
Notes: So vaguely based that it's more like some recognizable elements lifted from The Little Prince. XD Although the references to war and ( Read more... )

oh my god, you write things that make me ache

and forget punctuation

The Little Prince will always be a story I hold near and dear. And Eames wondering who asks for roses in wartime, wondering if he'll be less broken if he manages to steal the PASIV, and Arthur letting him go...all I can think of are the last lines from TLP, the If this should happen, please comfort me. Send me word that he has come back. And then I end up a mess.

Please don't put yourself down so much, all right? ♥

Yesss there is such an interesting push-and-pull in the ending of The Little Prince...! It's like, the narrator seems partly convinced by the Little Prince's assurance that knowing he's out there somewhere will turn the world beautiful, but even still he can't really let go of that basic human want to just be close, in the same physical space. I love that he can't quite come to terms with one frame of mind or another, because really, who can!

Ahh Yvi ;____; thank you. I-- I am just really wary of author's notes that attempt to influence the reading of the story, so mostly I was and am bashing that part of this entry more than the fic doesthatmakeitbetter iamtryingnottobetooopenlyselfcritical.

There aren't many things that get me all gooey when I read them, but that book is one of them. I remember finishing it for the first time when I was very young and hoping the narrator still lived a long, happy life and didn't end up becoming sad and unhinged. It appears maybe I was a little morose as a child.

I've deleted more words than I've written, I'm sure, and it took me forever and ever to be remotely comfortable with the idea of taking ownership for anything I'd written and when I see people doing things like DVD commentaries for their fic it continues to BLOW MY MIND, so in conclusion LOL NOT BEING SELF-CRITICAL IS HARD. But I'm glad to hear this is only oblique bashing and not full-on. :)

flkhf;algah;elkh; STARS, DAMN YOU!! GIVE ME MY FRIEND BACK!!! Lolol also the ominous part where he is like, "...I REALLY HOPE THAT SHEEP DIDN'T FUCKING EAT THAT ROSE. I REALLY HOPE... OH MAN IF THAT HAPPENED I MIGHT CRY FOREVER. I HOPE IT DIDN'T FUCKING EAT THE ROSE."

wait stop taking this moment to semi-justify self-bashing! Why the hell would you delete anything you have written! Yvi are we going to play "more uncomfortable with ownership than thou"!!!! STOP YOU ARE WONDERFUL FULL STOP THE END

aw Ifrit hahaha ok ok

This is a really interesting idea for uses of the PASIV, it's massively AU of course. Is Arthur a program or a person? But that's not important in this story right? Hahaha ok well some stories are more important than Arthur and Eames' eternal love even though until I read your AN I definitely thought that Arthur was a real person somewhere out there and if Eames ever chances upon him perhaps he would be in love. Or Arthur wouldn't be who he was in the dream and Eames would still be ok with that.

Also I'm reading your other conversation lol and I loooove commentary from writers. I think that's what I told you the first time we talked... hahaha...

It's an interesting look at what their thoughts are and at the same the it isn't really influencing my interpretation of the reading since I've already made my conclusions before I read the AN. But that's how I roll and I can't say the same for everyone else.

LOLOLOLOLOL TOP SECRET WTFERY maybe I should screen it, it's just so... I mean I don't want it to affect the reading of... that is indeed the way you roll and I am thankful for it but it's just, you know, right here on the first page as a huge block of comment text and... okay I think I am going to screen it lfdhg;alh;

That is the weird thing, that even after the closure of learning to accept what we can't have, somehow we still want a CLOSURE TO THAT CLOSURE! We are so strangely unsatisfied with satisfaction, I love how odd that is but yes the whole coda felt like it made the story draaaaaaag. Thank you Shu. ♥

This was beautiful. This was tears-springing-to-eyes beautiful, and I loved it. I thought the ending was perfect-- one can imagine Eames going on to look for a real Arthur, one could even imagine him finding him one way or another, but as far as reading goes, I like it ending as it does.

Also, the rose becoming Baobob-sized and Eames' musings on it destroying a smaller planet? Won me.

I am so glad that you enjoyed it...! ;_____; That is so true, imagining whatever might happen afterward is such a more elegant way to leave it up to the reader, instead of trying to cram my own thoughts into the story. Thank you so much, I need to remember that ♥

OMG YES IT IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE FANON USES FOR THE PASIV EVER THOUGHT OF *____* I love it so much when Ariadne starts getting really into what the PASIV can do and becomes a super awesome dream-psychiatrist who is really good with architecture on the side. She could use DREAM ARCHITECTURE TO PROVIDE THERAPY! SO COOL

Ahahaha every time I write anything even vaguely French-y I am mentally like ANA :DD LOOK ANA :DDDD
