‘That night, Reita didn't leave the house, not even to go out and get his own source of food. And this certainly affected him the next day. He seemed weak- or just plain out of energy- and he even debated whether to go to the school or not. Not to mention he didn't actually have to go, because of how many times had re repeated this same grade? Plenty of times. He rushed with the homework, making quick work of it, since he already knew it all. He stuffed it into his backpack, and left the house. Looked like he was going to school after all. It took him longer than normal to arrive- all because he knew taking his bike would be a problem with the state he was in. He passed by everyone, not even wanting to look at anyone. Since he had yet to look at himself, he was certainly paler than normal and looked like he had a rough night- since even with the fact that he didn't need sleep, his body usually stayed the same. But with no 'food', his body certainly took a toll because of the lack of it. He made his way to the stairs, seeing Ruki already there. He knew Ruki would make a comment on his appearance, but he couldn't avoid him. "... Morning Ruki."
Ruki glanced up as Reita arrived, and his eyes immediately widened. "Man... rough night, Reita?" he asked concernedly, standing up and looking at the state his friend was in. Poor Reita... he looked wrecked! "Were you up late doing homework or something? Do you feel ill?" he asked, standing on his tiptoes and places his hand on Reita's forehead, feeling for a temperature. Reita was always pale, so he couldn't judge based on that. "You sure you should be here today?" Ruki asked, tilting his head to the side, and nibbling his lower lip. Ruki didn't really have friends, so when he had one, he had to make sure that they were okay. "I can take you home if you want, I don't really give a shit about school," he said carelessly. School was the last thing on Ruki's mind after all!
"I'm not sick..." Reita stated. What could he say that would make sense? "When I got home last night, I went right to bed, but sooner than I wanted, my father came book home and noticed I had none of my homework done. So he got me up, lectured me and told me to do it. By the time I finished, I just couldn't bring myself to go back to sleep." He ran a hand through his already messed up hair- since he hadn't fixed it that morning like he usually did. It certainly added to his horrible appearance. "Even though I was tired, he forced me to go to school. And I can't go home until he leaves, which is around noon." That almost felt like the perfect lie to Rei, and the one that made the most sense. He would definitely have to go out that night to fix this. "I'm just going to stick it out until after my father leaves then I'm just leaving and going home." He actually planned to leave before that, but something was telling him not to and he was going by it.
--
Ruki was wearing a distinct pout on his face as he walked through the streets. Reita had left before break, and Ruki had skipped the rest of the days classes and had mooched around town for a while. He was getting fed up of people going on about the killer. And speaking of which... it probably wasn't the best idea to be walking around at night. But that wasn't on the top of his mind right now. He was worried about Reita. His dad sounded like an asshole, and Ruki wanted to go and cheer him up. The small male spotted Reita's home up ahead, and soon arrived, knocking on the front door, and waiting. And waiting. Where the hell was Reita? Didn't he know that it was dangerous to be outside at night at the mo- oh yeah. With a faintly annoyed growl, Ruki turned around, and leaned against the front door, tilting his head back and gazing up at the city buildings. Damnit. Where was Reita?
With one last jump, Reita landed on the rooftop of the building across from his, a smile clearly on his face. He had a little better luck this night, actually finding tonight a bit more fun than others. He could hear the sirens of the police already ringing in his ears, and all he could do was smile. He stood there for a moment, gazing up at the sky. "... This makes up for what I missed last night." He laughed to himself, and walked to the edge of the building, ready to go back home, even with some time left. But when he looked down, he stopped. Someone was standing outside of his house. Not a good thing. "Who is-” No sooner had he said this was he able to figure out who it was. 'R-Ruki...!?' Now it was definitely not good. And to his luck, the shorter male was looking up in his direction. "Fuck." Reita did the only thing he could think of doing, and he took off, planning to see if he was truly spotted or not, running on the rooftops like he had been doing before. He hoped his luck was good and that Ruki hadn't seen him…
Unfortunately for Reita, Ruki had spotted him just as he began to run. What the fucking hell? What was Reita doing up there? Just as Ruki was about to call after him, he suddenly paused, frowning. He wanted to find out what Reita was doing. Perhaps this was related to what had made Reita look so exhausted this morning. Maybe it wasn't his father at all. But that still didn't explain why Reita was running around on rooftops. Then he'd find out. Ruki began running after Reita, keeping close to the sides of buildings, glancing up every now and then to make sure that he was still following Reita. Though something was definitely bugging him. Just how was Reita getting from roof to roof? Nobody could jump that far. This was all far too puzzling, but he would get to the bottom of this, no matter what. Even if he was heading further into the city in the coming night.
In order for Reita to know if Ruki was following him, Reita had to glance down. And to his horror, he certainly was. This certainly caused Reita to freak out inside. This was not something he had on his agenda today. Course, what happened next wasn't on his agenda either. Because he happened to be keeping an eye on Ruki, he misjudged a jump, causing him to miss the next rooftop by mere centimeters. His next reaction was to reach out and grab the edge, but even in doing so, the force of gravity acting upon him forced him to lose his grip. And now with only the pavement below him, he needed to think quickly. He made sure his legs were facing down and prepared himself. He landed right on them, fumbled a bit and eventually fell over. He had to thank the fact that even from dangerous heights, he still couldn't get injured from it. He was dazed for a moment and had to shake his head clear, even though his vision was still a bit fuzzy. Certainly in no condition to stand up correctly, all Rei could do was lay there on the ground. There was no way he was going to escape this either way.
Ruki slowed down, panting a little, his hands resting on his knees. "Damnit... where'd he go?" Ruki breathed, glancing up to the rooftops and then around. He growled faintly, confused and angry at Reita. What was he playing at- up on the city roofs at night? No less with a murderer about. Ruki sighed, and leaned against the wall, listening closely. Reita didn't just disappear now, did he? His blood was pounding in his ears, and he could almost hear his heartbeat. His face was flushed- his head a little sore. "Reita..." he whispered, before he heard the faint sound of a thud. "Huh...?" Ruki murmured, glancing around for the source of the sound. He peered into the alley way between the two buildings and gasped, blood pushing through his veins so quickly. "Reita!!" he said, rushing over to the other and kneeling down beside him. "What the hell have you been doing?" he demanded. "Are you okay?" he asked, his hands resting atop Reita's chest. He was panicking- upset and angry, confused and unable to figure out what was going on.
For a moment, Reita just lay there, not responding. He knew at that moment, nothing he could do was going to help him now. His vision still a bit on the blurry side, Reita looked at what he figured to be Ruki. He reached up with one hand, taking hold of Ruki's arm, but released it seconds later when he could feel Ruki's pulse. Not something he wanted to feel. "I'm fine... really..." That's when Reita took the chance to sit up, letting his eyesight fix itself. Reita had to thank the fact he landed in a pretty dark alley way, otherwise his appearance wouldn't be completely the same. Pupil-less eyes, longer canine teeth- everything to set him apart from a normal human being. "... Ruki, please... you can't be near me right now. Just let me go so I can head home..." Reita still didn't stand, awaiting Ruki's answer. And being in this state of vulnerableness was not good for him, and standing up would make it worse until his eyesight came back. A heartbeat sounded in his ear, and he knew it wasn't his own. Ruki needed to get away from him... sooner than later.
But Ruki was having none of it. "Let go? Are you fucking insane?" he snapped, shaking Reita lightly. "You fell from a fucking building!" he said, his voice pitched a little higher. How was Reita even alive? And what did he mean... that Ruki couldn't be near him? "What's going on Reita?" he asked. Gods, they had to go to hospital, and make sure Reita was okay. He shook Reita a bit harder, and moved to help him sit up. "Reita, what are you doing tonight...?" Ruki asked, his tone slightly softer. The little firecracker was forcing himself to calm down, and take a hold on the situation, though his dark eyes remained wide and confused. He breathed in deeply, and brushed his hand through his hair, trailing it over his neck in slight frustration. "What's going on, huh? You just fell off a building- what were you doing up there in the first place?!"
Reita knew his words would be ignored when he told Ruki to get away from him. At least he was looking out for his friend's safety. And having him yelling at him wasn't helping the situation. Finally his eyesight became better and he could actually see Ruki fully. "I wouldn't have fallen if I was paying attention." That was certainly clear. "And I was up there... avoiding people... from seeing me. That's what I was doing up there." Again, that cleared that up. Now was his time to figure out what to do next. And he knew Ruki was not going to let him get off the hook easily. Reita backed away from Ruki before getting back to his feet. He wobbled slightly before regaining his balance. Without another word, Reita actually took hold of Ruki's arm and pulled him out of the alleyway, into the glow of the moonlight. He turned Ruki around so he was facing him before he spoke up again. "Ruki... take a good look at me... I want you to tell me what he see... cause you might find... I'm not the same at night as I am during the day."
How was Reita so calm about this?! Ruki wasn't able to voice his question as Reita grabbed his arm and tugged him out of the dark alleyway and onto the street, the moonlight exposing Reita's form. His breath hitched in his throat, heart feeling as if it had skipped a beat out of shock. How could he see into Reita's eyes like this? He couldn't- there were no pupils- an effect no contact lens could have. His elongated fangs peeking out from beneath his lips.. but what did it all mean? He took a deep breath- his posture defensive and his body rigid, despite how he trembled as blood pounded through his body. "What are you...?" he whispered, his gaze fixed on the demon before him. "Who are you?"
These were questions Reita was now willing to answer. Everything was out now, and he couldn't hide anything anymore. "... I'm the vampire killer. But what the press doesn't know- and no one else- is that it's not a murderer committing these crimes. It's an actual being of fiction. A true vampire... and that's me." Reita ran a gloved hand through his hair, trying to take this as calmly as he could. "This is why at night I would leave. This is why I ran into the bathroom that time he cut your hand on that glass you dropped at my house. This is why I was spacing out when I took you home. This is why I looked sick earlier. All because of this..." Reita paused, taking a step away from Ruki. He had the urge to leave. His friend- Ruki- was now standing before him, probably terrified of him now. And he didn't blame him. "I didn't want anyone to find out. And... I tried keeping you safe, not allowing you to see me like this. That's why I told you to just leave me alone... every second, including now, that you're near me... in a sense, you become more and more... delectable in my eyes..." Again Reita took a step away. "Please... for your sake... just run... I don't want to hurt you..."
Quite suddenly, everything seemed to be falling into place. Reita's mysterious lack of family, his odd mood, the glass incident, the jumping from rooftops...! But... then again, how the hell could it make sense? The vampire killer was a mere pyschopath, something who read a little too many fantasy novels. Vampires didn't exist... they were things of mythology! But when he stared at Reita, saw the pupiless eyes, and the fangs... how could he believe otherwise? "Reita..." Ruki whispered, quite suddenly grabbing hold of the other's arms. "Stop it- stop it, you don't mean that," he said, quite obviously preferring being in denial rather than accepting this truth. He was scared- to his shame, his hands trembling as he held onto Reita. "I'm not leaving you like this!" he said firmly, his gaze flickering over Reita's body. He even had a particular outfit to wear at night. How could Ruki believe that his first friend- his best friend was a murderer? One who drained the life of human beings. No wonder Reita had hated hearing about the vampire killer. HE was the killer! "Please tell me this is all some fucked up mistake..."
Hearing Ruki like this was killing Reita inside, even though his face and body didn't show it. He knew something like this would happen if Ruki had found out about him. When Ruki grabbed onto his arms, he could easily feel Ruki's pulse through them, and the lust he felt inside was slowly becoming harder and harder to ignore. "It's not a mistake. This is what I am. Think about it. The attacks first started at the same time I showed up at the school. That had to tie into something. And this is it." Reita was actually surprised no one linked to that in the first place. But he wasn't going to say anything about that now. "If you don't want to accept that this is what I am, I won't force you to, no matter if it's the truth or not." Reita attempting to get Ruki to let him go, but found that harder than ever. "Ruki... you need to let me be who I am. There's nothing you can do to help me... and everyone who has... I've killed. Including my family..." That was something he had forgotten to mention before; that he was responsible for his lack of family. "My own family... I don't want you suffering the same fate as them."
Ruki was soon feeling ill, his stomach churning, his grip on Reita's arms too tight. It all made sense, yet he wasn't wanting to believe it at all. Reita was a fucking vampire! A mythical creature! "You just showed up in this city and started killing people? What, were you only friends with me so you could kill me too?" he asked, his voice rising slightly. Oh fucking hell, he thought Reita was his friend! The only friend he'd had in so long, and he turned out to be a vampire. Fucking wonderful. He closed his eyes tightly and clenched his hands, tilting his head to the side. "You killed your family...?" he whispered, his eyes slowly opening a little bit. "I don't even know you!" he growled, his hand moving back and slapping Reita across the face. "I don't believe this!" he said incredulously, breathing heavily and trembling a little.
This was why Reita didn't want anyone finding out about him. This always happened to him, no matter who he tried to make friends with. And when Ruki struck out at him, Reita let him. Personally, he knew he deserved it, even though it wasn't his fault he was like this. And even if Ruki didn't want to be around him any longer, Reita understood, and would never want to hurt him. "You're right, you don't know me. Because I lied to you. Instead of coming out, I kept the truth from you. And now it's all coming down at once..." Reita backed up a bit from Ruki, turning so his back was to the shorter male. "I know very well I'm not wanted. Friends- when they found out about me- never wanted to see me again. And I thought maybe with you... it would be different." Reita looked up, staring at the moon that hung in the sky. "Apparently not." Reita began to walk away, not wanting to bother Ruki anymore. "... And for the record, ever since I became your friend... I never wanted to hurt you. And THAT isn't a lie..." Reita didn't turn back around, just walking off, by that point not caring what happened to him.
Ruki listened to Reita and bit his lower lip, his gaze lowering as his friend spoke. "Stop it... stop guilt tripping me... you're a vampire!" he whispered. He didn't meet Reita's gaze, and instead looked at the ground. "What the hell was I supposed to say? Think? You're a vampire, you murder people!" he said, finally looking up at Reita and feeling his breath hitching in his throat. "Reita..." he murmured softly, swallowing hard. Oh no... He felt terrible now. He understood what Reita felt, people abandoning you once they found out what you were like. "You didn't? You never wanted to hurt me?" he sighed, glancing up towards the sky and running a hand through his hair. As Reita turned and began walking away, he took a step forwards. "Reita, come back...!" Ruki whispered. What the hell did he do? Did he run after Reita, and talk this over, or did he try to pretend that nothing had happened tonight? Reita would probably leave now that Ruki knew his secret, right? Or would he? He sighed softly, tears stinging his eyes. "Reita!" he called louder.
He didn’t want to look back. It would only make his decision of leaving greater. He couldn’t stay here any longer, no matter what. Now that Ruki knew, anyone could find out. Just like all his other friends, promising they would keep his secret then betraying him to tell the government- or the police- until he went and killed them. But there was something about Ruki, something that was different, something that would keep Reita from killing him, even if he told the authorities about him. Soon, Ruki’s yell of his name snapped him awake, as if he received a brick to the face. There was no way he could leave; he was still Ruki’s friend, right? Reita didn’t even know anymore. He could feel his throat tightening as his emotions started to work against him. He stopped in his tracks, turning his head enough to look at Ruki. Even from his distance he could tell Ruki was on the verge of crying. And the same was true for him. It was now or never; he either left his friend in an attempt to keep him safe, or let Ruki risk his life to stay friends with him.
"Reita, don't leave..." Ruki murmured, his heart skipping a beat as his friend turned around. What did he do? What did he say? Time was against him and he needed to much more of it to come to a conclusion. It felt like Ruki's world had been turned upside down, and his mind, his heart and emotions had been tossed around along with the ride. Reita was a vampire, a fictional being- or so he had thought- a murderer...
When Ruki cast his mind back to a few days ago, the young girl in their year sobbing over the loss of her elder sister. That had been Reita. And he hadn't shown the slightest remorse! It was dangerous to be around such a creature- what was stopping Ruki from being next? But then again... the vampire, the monster had told him himself that he wouldn't harm Ruki. But what did he believe now that his trust in the other was shattered to pieces? It seemed that Ruki had two options. To let Reita leave him, disappear from his life forever or to... or to stay with him. Be his friend, no matter what. The small male swallowed hard, and breathed in deeply. "Reita, don't go. Please. Please let's just... talk about this." he murmured, unsure if the other could hear him from the distance.
Even though Reita was some distance away, he could clearly hear Ruki. He had an incredible sense of hearing, even when he wasn't a vampire. And what Ruki said made him start to perk up. Did this mean that Ruki didn't want him to leave? Or did he just want to know more about him now? Reita couldn't be sure. But he wasn't about to go denying Ruki the chance to talk things over with him, especially if it meant they would still be able to stay friends. For just a moment Reita still stood there, before he made his way back over to Ruki. It was quicker than he thought, but at least something good might come from this. "... Would you rather talk now or later when I'm not like this...? I'll give you the choice." Reita was actually really surprised he was doing this well with controlling his urges. He had promised that he wouldn't hurt Ruki in any way, and he was certainly holding onto it.
"You're a murderer, and a vampire, but..." Ruki trailed off. Perhaps he was being selfish... Reita was his only friend after all. He didn't want his motives to be purely selfish, but he didn't want to lose Reita either! His heartbeat had slowed a little bit, but he was far from calm. "I don't want to talk to you like this. When you look like that," he murmured. There was something incredibly unnerving about talking to one who lacked pupils, and the fangs of a tiger. "I can't talk to you right now." he said quietly. He was confused about what he should do. Turn Reita in to the police? He doubted they'd catch Reita if he knew they were after him. Ruki sighed and ran a hand through his hair, glancing away from Reita. "I'm... going home." Ruki sighed, brushing past Reita and looking shaky. He knew he wouldn't sleep tonight. "Just... I..." he trailed off. What- call him? Text him? "I'll come by sometime and talk to you, okay?"
When Ruki said he didn't want to talk to him then, Reita understood. Why would someone want to stand there and talk to him when he looked like he did? That's right, no one would. He just simply nodded his head right before Ruki pushed past him. This was certainly not the best night for either of them. Reita turned ever so slightly to look over and see Ruki walking away. At least he was going to be given the chance to talk- whenever Ruki felt up to it. "Yeah... I'll be home." Reita left it at that. He stood there were only a few moments more before disappearing back into the alleyway, making his way back up the side of a building and landing back up on the rooftops- his means of transportation back home. It didn't take long before he got there, getting through the window- the same way he got out of the house. There would be no more leaving during the day for him unless he needed to. He wanted to be home when the time came that Ruki would confront him. That is, if Ruki was truly telling him the truth.
The small male trailed home, his hands in his pockets, a sullen look on his face. What did he do... what did he do? This was such an awful situation to be in! When he finally arrived home, he padded into his room and closed the door tight behind him. He simply stared at his bed for a moment, as if completely lost. Ruki undressed and curled up in bed, his arms around himself. His best friend was a murderer! "Reita..." he whispered softly. He didn't sleep that night, nor did he attend school. He stayed home in his room, considering everything, terrified, angry... lost...
He sighed unhappily, and remained in his room for a few days. A week after he had discovered Reita's secret, he ventured out of his house in the evening time, wearing a long sleeved white tshirt and jeans- a red font on his shirt. He felt it was good to be casual, and try and keep things as normal as possible. Arriving at Reita's house, he knocked on the door, looking a little unsure. Everything that Reita had said to him... it had been a lie. Why was he even here?!
By this time, Reita was getting quite worried. He knew he wouldn't be confronted again. It had always been that way to him so it was nothing new. Over the past week, Reita had been keeping himself satisfied to taking the blood from other living creatures, just enough so he could continue each day without looking weaker and weaker. And every passing second, he expected someone to show up at the house- some sort of authority come to take him away to where he could be killed and dealt with accordingly. And when the knock came upon his door one evening, he thought the time had come. 'I knew it' he mentioned to himself as he headed out of the living room to answer the door. When he unlocked it and opened it, he was quite surprised to find no authorities there- only Ruki. He did stick to his words and came back. Reita couldn't believe it, thinking he was day dreaming or something. "R-Ruki...?" Reita stuttered, finding it hard to talk at the moment. He moved out of the way, allowing Ruki to come in if he so choose to do so. "... Honestly, I never thought I'd be seeing you again."
Ruki's hands were shoved into his pockets, and he didn't quite meet Reita's gaze as he headed inside the house. "Honestly? I didn't think I'd be seeing you again either." he muttered. Ruki had assumed that Reita would leave town immediately, and find another place to make 'friends' and try to fit in. He had been more than willing to let that happen, too, if not for... well.
If not for what? The fact that he somehow cared for Reita? The vampire was his friend, even if he was a murderer. "I just wanted to talk to you. Find out a few things. Things I don't think I could just ignore, or let slip. I didn't expect you to still be here. I thought you'd be long gone by now." Ruki murmured. So it was a definite relief that Reita was indeed still here. He took his hands from his pocket and looked at the other intently, trying to read him- to see past mere flesh and bones and see deeper into the soul, the mind. What made Reita tick? He sighed and ran a hand through his hair again, wishing he could feel safe and secure. And of course... to know. So many things that he wanted to know, and he'd had the time to get over the discovery. Now was the time to tell the truth.
Sure, Reita had thought about it. But he couldn't bring himself to just leave without giving Ruki a chance. And it was going to pay off. Reita shut the door once Ruki was inside and headed for the living room. "I actually was going to leave if you didn't show up by tomorrow. So it's lucky you decided to come by today then." Reita sat back down on the couch, his gaze to the floor. He could only imagine the questions Ruki would have for him. There was so much to say; so much to tell; and so much that Reita actually didn't know- or didn't remember. Even though he had been alive for so long, there were still questions he had of his own. The biggest- how did he get this way? It didn't seem normal, not even to him. "If you have any specific questions, I'll answer them. I'm not going to leave you in the dark about this whole thing. Not anymore." Reita sighed silently to himself, still looking down at the ground. "Then you can really decide whether or not you still want to be associated with me."
"Yeah, I have questions..." he murmured, sitting down on the edge of the couch, his hands clasped in front of him. "I want to know... how you became a vampire. When, and why you're here attending my school. Because I figure you've been doing this for a long time. You kill people, you drink their blood. And why do you even give a damn about me? I'm just some kid, right?" he said bitterly, glancing away from Reita and sighing. "I mean... Reita... for gods sake..." he whispered. Reita had murdered people! It was one thing to beat someone, another to take an innocent life for blood. "How could you even hide something like this from me? I thought we were supposed to be friends. Why the hell are you even friends with me in the first place?" he asked, beginning to get a little angry.
"If I came right to you and told you, you wouldn't have believed me. And if I showed you right off the bat, you would have hated me. Either way was a loss situation for me." While truthful, there was something else that needed to be noted. "I pick my friends- those people who I think would be able to handle the truth. But sometimes, I still hide what I am to them, for fear of making a great friend of them and then losing them completely in the end. It'll probably happen now but... what's new." Reita paused, knowing that probably made no sense. "I've been here since before going to the school, but I lived elsewhere before here. I have to travel from place to place. And in order to look 'normal' for the age I look, I had to attend some school. The one you go to was closest." Reita had attend school is various countries he had travelled to, which would explain the knowledge he had obtained from them and used to his advantage. "I've been alive longer than you think I have. However..." Another pause before continuing. "... I don't know, or recall, how I became this way. So that is a question... I can't answer." Reita wished he knew how he became this way, but everything that happened at the beginning of his life was a blur, and hard to clarify. So until he figured it out, it would be a mystery to everyone, including himself.
It was true. If Reita had suddenly told Reita that he was a murdering vampire, he wouldn't have anything to do with him. He nodded slowly to Reita's answers, though he looked as if he were pondering deeply. "So in a few years, you're going to get up and disappear to stop people wondering why you don't age, huh?" he murmured. Then Ruki would be left alone again. It felt... selfish but he had wanted a friend! "Look, Reita... I wanna stick by you. Even if you're a murderer. Even if you're dangerous." he said. But hadn't Reita already told him that he wouldn't harm Ruki? Then again, why should he believe him? No... trust was key to a friendship. "I don't want to push you away. I mean.. you're my friend, right...?" he whispered, dragging his gaze up to Reita and tilting his head to the side. "I'm still a little... unnerved by it all. Kinda scared, to be honest. But I don't want to give up on you. I think a lot of people already have."
"More people than you think." Not being able to stand sitting on the couch any longer, Reita got to his feet and started to just walk around the room. "Your hunch is correct. I will eventually have to leave. But no one has ever been around that long to see me leave." Usually within the first year, Reita was leaving where he lived because people started getting curious. And quite frankly, he was running out of places to go. But, was Ruki being serious when he said he wanted to stay by him? "... I still consider you a friend." Reita nodded his head slightly, stopping in the middle of his walk and looking over at Ruki. "Everyone I met was always scared of me. So eventually you'll either get over it, or keep being scared whenever I'm around. Either way... it won't change who I am, no matter how hard you try to dismiss the fact." Eventually Reita sat back down, his gaze still fixed on Ruki. One step at a time is what would keep Ruki from running out on him at this moment.
"Yeah...you can't change who you are... no matter how much you try." Ruki murmured, his tone taking a faintly bitter edge. He didn't know what he was doing, by saying that he'd stick by Reita. He was a vampire! A ruthless killer! And yet... when Ruki looked at him, he wanted nothing more than to accept him. He knew what it felt like to be alone. Hell- he'd been alone most of the time before Reita had became his friend. "I'm scared of you. Fuck me for admitting something like that." he said, shaking his head. "But I am. For reasons you know about. And I've lost a lot of trust in you, Rei. I don't know if you're gonna try and kill me. Whether you were just getting close to bite my neck, or something... but I guess it's a chance you have to take." he said, running a hand through his hair and watching the other sit back down. He wanted to desperately to run, but.. he couldn't. He had made his decision.
At first, Reita didn't know what to say at all. Maybe he should have left before now. At least he wouldn't be affecting Ruki the way he was now. "I didn't expect you not to be scared. I'm used to people being afraid of me. It's nothing new." Reita knew it would take time for Ruki to get used to all of this, since it was a huge amount to take in a once. All his other friends had been the same way, so he was just repeating what he would normally say to them. But, if Ruki took his word and didn't tell anyone about his secret, then Ruki would finally be different. "... I've been told you can regain trust with someone you really care about. Did I ever believe that, no. I thought it was rubbish. But there are things in this world that you don't believe... until it's right in front of your own eyes. And I guess... I'm a perfect example of that..."
Ruki looked down at his knees. Reita... cared about him? That was something nice to hear. The only people in his life that cared about him usually, was his mother and his brother. Family were one thing, friends were another. "Thanks..." he mumbled, twisting his hands together slowly. "I care about you too. I mean.. if I didn't, I don't think I'd be here right now, ne?" he said. Then again, even if he went to the police, he doubted they'd believe him. "So we'll work this out, right? You and me, against the world. We'll figure something out. I guess that now there aren't any secrets anymore, it means we can get to know each other better. No more lies about missing parents..." he sighed. It was all a lot to take in, but Ruki was confident that he'd accept it. He was telling the truth after all. He really did care about Reita.
Somehow Reita knew Ruki did care about him. He came back to him while some friends never did, leaving him completely deserted and just leaving. Once again, Reita found himself on his feet, but this time he stood by the window, just looking outside. "I've tried going against the world myself. It's certainly not working. Never before have I gone against it with someone else by my side. But something inside keeping pulling at me. As if it's trying to tell me that this is only the beginning, and there is much more to come." It was true though. This WAS the beginning. It was like a whole new life to him, in some aspects. But instead of starting off alone, he was going to have someone with him. And this caused a small smile to cross his face for a moment. "Trust me, we'll learn more about each other than you think. Even if my deepest secret is no longer one to you anymore."
"Yeah. A new beginning for both of us." he said, a faint smile flickering on his own face. "Now I know your deepest secret, I guess there won't be anything that can shock me anymore, right?" Ruki smiled, getting up and padding over to the window to Reita. This was /their/ new beginning together, taking on whatever came at them. As friends- something it seemed neither of them had or could hold down for whatever reasons. He sighed softly and reached his arms around Reita, hugging him, forehead against his chest. It might have been a bit of a girly gesture, and a less-than-masculine sort of hug, but Ruki knew Reita needed the comfort and reassurance that this would work- even if Ruki wasn't so sure himself. And besides... it felt nice to hug Reita. It was like a handshake, sealing their new bond, but a lot more personal.
Nothing to shock him. Yes, that was certainly correct. Nothing else Reita could sya would be more shocking then what Ruki had already witnessed firsthand. Though, Ruki certainly still had some shocking things up his sleeve. And this was one of them. Reita was certainly not expecting a hug from Ruki, especially in this fashion. At first, Reita didn't move, just looking down at the small male attached to him. But soon, he figured out what it was for and smiled. "Now none of us will have any secrets to keep from one another. Slowly but surely, the trust we once had will return..." Finally Reita was starting to believe that saying he had mentioned moments before. Somehow, Reita fund his own arms going around Ruki, almost as if protecting him. If it one day came down to that, Reita would certainly put his own life- which was hard to exterminate- on the line to save the only friend he had.
Reita was right. The trust that Ruki had lost in the vampire would be restored in time as he got to know him better. He would be by his side as a loyal friend, even if... even if he currently had doubts. Well, what if Reita was a sneaky, malicious vampire that befriended others and killed them? Then again, why would he take the chance of letting Ruki leave after that night? It didn't add up. And gut instinct or not, Ruki wanted to believe the best of Reita. His arms stayed locked around the other, head against his chest lightly. He smiled very faintly at the hug and breathed in a deep sigh, feeling almost... safe and secure like this. But eventually, to avoid the situation being awkward- or at least more than it was already, he would have to let go. He did so and took a step back, a hand resting on the back of his neck. "Thanks Reita. For giving me a chance."
Reita just smiled. "That's what true friends do for one another. Even if something goes horribly wrong, they still give the other a chance. To make for what they did, or to regain trust." Reita's attention turned back to the city outside of his own window. He had choices to make now. Should he go back to the school and resume his 'normal' human activities, or just give up on that altogether? As far as Reita knew, if Ruki was still going to attend- which was likely if his parents cared about that- he would go as well. Besides, he still had to bring Ruki there on his bike too, since he had mentioned it. Reita turned to look at Ruki once more. "... You plan on going back to the school at all?" Odd question to ask at a time like this but it was something he needed to know. "Because maybe tomorrow morning... I could bring you there on my bike like I told you I would do sometime?"
Ruki nodded in agreement and hummed in thought, wondering abotu what the future held for both of them. He was sure there'd be good times, as well as hard times ahead, but they'd just have to face those when they arrived. And of course, Reita's inevitable departure after some time. But Ruki didn't want to think about that just yet. Not when he'd only just started this new friendship with the blond haired vampire. His eyes widened a little bit and he nodded. "Yeah, I'd like that. Does this mean that you're coming back too?" he asked curiously. Hey... no wonder Reita was so smart? He was bound to have done this year over and over at school, right?
"Yeah, I guess..." he murmured. It was hard to explain such a mysterious disappearance, wasn't it? The school would call around to Reita's home, ask questions and get others involved, and Reita just didn't need that hassle. "Huh, bored without school, ne?" he said, shaking his head. A world without school sounded pretty damn amazing to him; as long as he could do something fun with the rest of the time he was away. "You've probably memorized the course by now, right?" he said, nudging Reita playfully. "You can do all my homework for me~!" he grinned, his eyes innocent. Hey, it was worth a try! But as the street lamps flickered on outside, Ruki sighed. He should go...
"Just because I know the course, doesn't mean I'm doing your homework. That's your job, not mine." Course, he could always help. There was nothing against that now, was there? Reita couldn't help but laugh slightly at Ruki's attempt to get him to do it for him. "I'll help you with it, but I'm not doing the whole thing for you. What would you be learning if I did that?" Again, another laugh. Out of the corner of his eyes, Reita noticed the street lights turning on and knew it was time for Ruki to get home. If only the sun had waited a bit longer. A ride on the bike was not going to happen that night. "I assume you'll be leaving then?" Reita asked, already knowing the answer. "I'll be outside your house tomorrow with the bike to take you to school."
"I don't care about learning." he said truthfully. "I'm never gonna need to know half the things they teach us, I don't see the point," Ruki confessed, smiling to Reita. "Yeah. Before you go all pyscho-vampire on me, ne?" he said, still barely able to register the fact that his new best friend was a member of the undead. There were so many more things he wanted to know about Reita but he supposed they would have to wait. There was little point in rushing things. So with that, he said his goodbyes to Reita and headed off home, fairly confident that the murderer that was stalking the city wasn't going to get him on the way back.
Reita should have known that Ruki didn't care much about what was being taught right in front of him. Even the two weeks of school he had attended he could tell, especially with the way Ruki seemed to start daydreaming- or something along those lines. "I'm surprised the teachers don't try and force you to learn." It certainly would be fun to watch a teacher attempt to get a student to actually learn when they didn't want to. Once Ruki said goodbye and headed out the door, Reita just watched him through the window until he was out of sight. "Something tells me the days are going to start getting more interesting..." Reita said to himself before starting on his nightly activities.
