The current issue of NOW Magazine has an article of interest:
25 Best Vegetarian RestaurantsToronto restaurateurs have stepped up their commitment to vegetarians. Here are T.O.’s top 25 veggie eateries - in order
( Read more... )
what always irks me about their food reviews is the pricing. they claim "cheap" meals are generally around $10-15, when really, i can get a great lunch for $5 and a decent dinner for $8 at most veggie places. also, their designation for "veggie" doesn't include places that have a big veggie menu along with meaty stuff - and a lot of these kinds of places are just as delicious, and cheaper.
and why fressen over fresh? fresh is wayyyyy better!
While I definitely appreciate those restaurants (with meat dishes and veggie dishes) so I can still eat there, I do think that veg only restaurants deserve their own category. In this issue of NOW, they also had a feature on veggie burgers that are served in veg+meat places, and this was separate from the other article.
I still haven't been to Boom Shiva, it seems a touch on the expensive side for me. Veg Haven I have only had at the Veggie Food fair (I think) but we've been meaning to go into the restaurant itself.
i think they're all wrong with their ratings. i absolutely adore vegetarian haven! also, i think that cafe 668 is the worst vegetarian restaurant i've been to in toronto, no lies. i also love le commensal. i don't know what their rating system is but i really don't agree with any of those ratings.
I really like Café 668! Why do you think it's the worse? Tough, I do think someone at NOW is pretty obsessesed with it, whenever they have a veggie section (even in regular issues) it seems to be mentioned.
Good catch, I hadn't even noticed Le Commensal wasn't listed. I like that place as well, it is appealing to me because there are so many choices and as much or as little as you want of them.
and about cafe 668... i went once... the service was alright... the food was really bad... i had some mock chicken thing... and my friend had some mock beef thing... it was like, really cheap tasting... it didn't appeal to either of us! i much like the cuisine of places like vegetarian haven, le commensal and live. cafe 668 just wasn't my thing. i like asian food, i just didn't like that place. upon leaving my friend and i both agreed it was the worst food we've ever tried and never to go back. then again, i'm not really a fan of fresh either. they're good, but i like better than good kinda stuff. i dunno, i'm just picky i guess.
