Two Peas in a Pod

You want to know something weird. My five-year-old boy is writing fanfiction!  I mean seriously.

This morning, I asked him what he wanted to do for summer (swim, camping, etc). He said that he wanted to work on his book. And I said, “Me too!”  And then he showed me the loose pieces of computer paper detailing the adventures of Super Mario Brothers ( Read more... )

Awwww. ^_^

I'm reminded of the wee stories my kid wrote in kindergarten this past year - my favorite has to be the one about the flying house made of frogs that rescued pet chickens from hungry wolves, but there was also one about a Pokemon hatching from an easter egg that made me grin. There's definitely a certain sense of pride in seeing one's offspring following in one's footsteps, if only for a moment. ^_^

My, your little one is creative! A flying house made of frogs? I wouldn't mind reading that story.

My little one is so like me that it hurts. His artwork, though, is beyond anything that me or my husband ever did at his age. And his story telling... I've only started telling stories recently.

Alex wants to spend her summer vacation reading, writing and drawing fan-fics. I can remember that at this time last year, I couldn't get the girl to crack open a book for homework much less read for fun. Now, she only asked for books and manga for her birthday (which I happily obliged), she wrote me a fan-fic for my birthday (which I have yet to post) and has already written several stories on her own. I'm thinking I should just get a scanner, sign her up with an account and let her have at it. Of course, I completely thank my mom for this since she said I didn't spend enough time with Alex and now we swap ideas, OTPs and anime episodes. Kids are so awesome!

Wow! Alex is doing all that?! That's amazing. I'm guessing she must be younger than 11.

But, yes, kids are awesome! Especially when they pick up my interests and we have something to share.

That's right! Aren't you excited? The Wii finally comes out! Having kids certainly is awarding when it gives you an excuse to buy a video game system.
