Is AAC really that much better? I've read some stuff that states the margin of difference is stupidly small.
Also, I think Apple have got the software/GUI/interface RIGHT, which is more than I can say for iRiver and some other Samsung products I've seen recently. And that shits me off more than anything.
From what I hear (which isn't too much), I hear good things about Creative....
From what I've been able to tell iPods' interface is really intuitive, they're the only mp3 players I've had a look thru + I really like the interface. I really dont like that you can't transfer files back from them back to computer or other iPods.
As for aac... if you're listening on good speakers at volume, then yes, and if you really care that much about it... and it's consistent, when so many people rip shoddy mp3s. But for headphones where there's going to be outside noise & at low levels, the diff is negligable

Sandisk are making some hardcore mp3 players. Personally i prefer the simple 1gb mp3/ogg/fm radio players. cheap, reliable, does the job.
One of my friends at work has this:

It's teh cool :)
The Vision M is nice too, but i've never played with one and don't really have a use for it's selling features
