well, non-stand users can't see stands, and because stand users have accelerated healing htey are vulnerable to them. A non-stand user, however can in rare circumstances know about them. If close in proximity to a stand user there are indeterminate odds of their fate because of their moral alignment and abilities.

Nonetheless, they have slimmer odds of meeting stand users because they are sparsely scattered and stand users meet by fate.
