Does anyone have recommendation for particularly good & funny Rifftrax? Rifftrax is one of those things I've always meant to look into more and never did, but I'm mildly sick and in a lousy mood so this might cheer me up. I'm considering one of the Transformer movie (in the "genuinely bad movie" category) or one of the Lord of the Rings movies (in ( Read more... )

My two favorite recent Rifftrax are Cloverfield and Spider-man 3. Spidey 3 has a guest riffer named James Likeks who runs the lileks.com humor web site -- he's hilarious, plus the film teeters on the edge of being so bad that it's good. Personally, I enjoyed the Spidey 3 (and I hate most modern superhero films too).

You might look on torrent sites and try to find some of the torrents that have mixed the film/audio track. If you like one of their riffs, then go to the Rifftrax site and give them a donation via Paypal. They KNOW that people d/l their Riffs for free and since they've always encouraged fans to "share the tapes" they don't really begrudge people watching for free (but it's nice to encourage the guys to make more Riffs by donating). :)

Also, a gal I know runs a streaming web blog that runs the old, OLD episodes of the MST2K cable tv show. Tons of old B&W films plus Joel and the robots. http://d-tvmst3k.blogspot.com/

BTW, her blog also has a live chat box so you can invite your pals over to watch the movies and chat. We'll be watching this Oscars this Sunday via live web streaming. :)

Ah, the torrenting's a good idea. I think I'll go with one of the LOTR movies first since I own them, but otherwise I was going to google to find the movies I don't own so I might as well try the torrent + donation for those. Cloverfield especially sounds like a good one. Thanks for the tips!

As a matter of fact, I'm watching a torrent of a Star Wars Rifftrax right now! One of my favorites lately is The Bourne Identity. It has more good jokes per gallon than many. You won't go wrong with any LotR, though!

Great minds and all that :D

The Borne Identity bored me quite a bit when I first saw it. Star Wars on the other hand I already own and sounds like good riffing fodder.

I'm a big fan of their riffs of The Room, Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny, Birdemic--truly bad films. I think some of their best riffs are the old educational shorts; "At Your Fingertips: Grasses" is one of my favorite things ever.

Ah yes, the stuff that would have gotten the MST3K treatment back in the day. Pretty sure I'm gonna get the one for The Room. I'll check out the shorts, thanks!
