Miranda: "Okay, honey, just like the last door. Give them your big smile when you ask." I said, standing behind her as she knocked on the door. Kid's a goldmine, no one has said no yet.
Carly: I smiled big and waited for the man or lady of the house to answer the door. I wonder how many I'm going to sell at this house.
Julie: "How about i get that door." I said as I pull away and rush to the door opening it timidly.
Groo: I follow her as she opens the door, looking over her shoulder to see a woman and a small girl standing there.
Miranda: I almost did a double take. No way. It just was someone that looked like her...a lot like her, like I imagined she would look...
Carly: "Hi, I'm selling girl scout cookies for my brownie troop. Would you like to buy some?" Big smile.
Julie: I look at her then back to Groo then back to the girl. "What are girl scout cookies?" I ask confused. "Is that a brand name?"
Groo: I look at Julie then at the others. "I am uncertain," I answer.
Miranda: How can someone not know what girl scout cookies are? They don't sound foreign to me. I was going to say something but Carly talked before I could.
Carly: "They're really yummy cookies, some with chocolate, some with chocolate and mint, and many more flavors your tummy will love. All at the low price of 3.50 a box! How can you say no to that?"
Julie: I look even more confused. "U...Umm, I..I." I looked to Groo panicked. It was just more to eat and that wasn't something I was ready for. I even started to tear up.
Groo: I place my hand on the small of her back, rubbing it gently. "It is all right, my sweet Julie," I say softly. I smile down at the small girl, "What would you recommend?" I ask her.
Carly: "My favorite are the thin mints. Chocolatey Minty goodness in a little cookie. How may boxes do you want?"
Miranda: This was all so odd. For a moment I thought we had lost the sale. The girl looked so confused and...sad. "They're really good. I have several boxes hidden at my house."
Julie: "Y..You have to hide them?" I asked "You get in trouble for eating them?" The little girl looked at me like I was insane, but it was a logical question to me.
Groo: I kiss Julie's cheek softly, and then kneel down in front of the small girl. "I would enjoy a box. Are there any other types you would recommend?"
Carly: Yes! I smiled at mommy, then back at the nice man. "Mommy just hides them so that us kids don't eat them before she can. You'll like the Carmel Delights too! They're my second favorite!"
Miranda: "Yeah, if don't hide them, the kids gobble them down like Halloween candy. Mommy needs her cookies too." I chuckled.
Julie: "Whats halloween candy?" I whispered again looking confused.
Groo: I stand and whisper softly to Julie, "I assume it is a dessert that is served on the holiday of Halloween." I look back down at the girl. "We shall take a box of those as well, then."
Julie: I look at him with fear in my eyes "I...I can't eat those" I said "W..What if I am caught?"
Groo: I take both of her hands in mine. "My sweet Julie, it is unnecessary for you to ingest cookies. There is no need to worry, however, please understand you are allowed to consume anything you choose. There is no one for you to answer to any longer," I say softly.
Miranda: I started to shake. She couldn't be, but what she was saying...so familiar, a life I lived eons ago. I took the sheet from Carly and filled it out myself. "Uh, just sign here and we'll let you know when the boxes come in." I couldn't stop shaking.
Carly: "Mommy? Are you okay? Maybe we should go home after this one..." I wasn't sure what was going on, but mommy looked sick.
Julie: I turned to her "A...Are you ok?" I asked my fear gone sort of. The only thing I know is if something happens here the police will be called and they could hurt me too.
Groo: I take the sheet from the woman and look at her, concerned. "Perhaps you would enjoy a glass of water?" I offer.
Miranda: I took a deep breath. "No, no, I'm okay, really. It's just been a long day. Long, long day. I, I mean we, should probably get home."
Carly: "We've been to almost every house in this neighborhood today. Mommy just needs to lie down. Eveything's okay!" I tried to sound cheerful.
Julie: "Oh..Ok." I whisper "I..I could get you some water if you want." I said softly
Julie: Edward: I heard the door but didn't know what was going on, I emerged and noticed a young lady and her mother talking to Julie and Groo. "What is going on here?"
Groo: I look at the woman, "It truly is no trouble, please, come inside," I offer. I turn to Edward, "This young lady is selling something called Girl Scout Cookies."
Carly: "They're really yummy! You want to buy some boxes, Mister?" I said, giving the nice man a big smile.
Miranda: "Honey, you don't have to hit up everyone who lives in the house. Sorry, she's getting carried away."
Julie: Edward: I smiled "It is quite alright, do they still make the shortbread cookies..." I asked my accent thick.
Julie: I smiled "You know what these are?" He nodded. "I..I wouldn't get in trouble if...if I had some would I?" I whispered. >
Julie: Edward: I walked over to her and gathered her in my arms. "No Julie. Your father is gone, he can't hurt you anymore." I whispered in her ear. She looked at me with fear in her eyes. "Jack St James can no longer hurt you...please don't continue to give him power."
Groo: I look at Edward, nodding in agreement. "Yes, please believe us," I say softly to Julie. I turn back to the woman, stepping away from the door, "Please, come in. It is no inconvenience," I say gently.
Miranda: All of the air left me. Oh God. Oh God it's really her. Oh God. I couldn't move, couldn't breathe. She was here, right here. I couldn't handle it. Then everything was dark.
Carly: "Mommy?" I said, looking at her. She was just staring at the people. I tugged on her. "Mommy, are we going inside?" Then she fell. "MOMMY!" I screamed.
Julie: My eyes shot wide open and I backed away panicking. "I didn't do it, I swear."
Julie: Edward: "Julie, I know you didn't." I rushed to the girl "It is alright, we will help your mother, do you by chance know how to reach your daddy?" I asked the terrified child.
Groo: I reach down and lift the passed out woman gently, taking her inside and laying her on the couch. I look back to the young girl, "Little one, please come inside with your mother, we will not harm you," I say gently, offering her my hand.
Carly: I didn't know what to do. This had never happened before. I started crying so much I couldn't talk. I went inside like the nice man told me to. "Da...da...da...ddy...w-w-w-or ks...he works...at S-S-S-aint..." I couldn't finish, I was crying too hard.
Julie: Something in me took over, I know fear, I didn't want this girl to feel it. I knelt in front of her. "Sweetie, what is your name?" I asked as I put a hand on her shoulder. "Shh, don't be scared, your mom is just resting."
Groo: I stand by Julie, looking down at the girl. I reach down and pick her up, uncertain of how to comfort her. "Julie is correct, I believe she may have simply fainted."
Julie: Edward: "Groo, you can't just pick up a child without even introducing yourself to her." I urge him to put her back down.
Groo: "Oh, I did not know," I say, blushing setting her back down. I offer her my hand. "I am The Groosalugg. Do you have a name?"
Carly: "Carly...My mommy's going to be okay?" I asked the nice big man. I liked him. "Daddy...daddy can fix her, he's a doctor."
Julie: I stand "Where is he a doctor, I will call him for you."
Carly: I turned to see the girl. "St. Francis Hospital. I don't know his phone number..." I started to get upset again. I latched onto the big man, well, his leg.
Julie: "Hey, my name is Julie...and I think I can figure it out." I said as I went to the phone and dialed information.
Groo: I bend down and pick the girl up again, holding her to me. "Your mother will be fine Carly, I am certain. What is your father's name? Julie will need to know it to speak with him. Is there anything I can get you, perhaps a glass of milk or juice?" I ask her.
Carly: "Craig Gordon. That's my daddy's name. And I'm not supposed to accept anything from strangers. I'm not even supposed to talk to them...but I like you Mr. Groosa...Groosa...Groo."
Julie: I find the number and dial asking for Craig Gordon, they ask why and I tell them it has to do with his wife, they immediatly transfer me to his office.
Groo: I smile at the girl, "Just Groo is fine, little one. I understand if you are uncomfortable accepting something from someone you do not know."
Craig: "Hello? This is about my wife? Is she okay? Do I need to send an ambulance? She is...she is alive?" I was almost panicking.
Julie: "She is fine, she just passed out at m...the door to the house i live in."
Craig: My blood pressure went down. "Okay. And where is your house? And what was she doing at your house?"
Carly: "You're nice. I like you." I lay my head on his shoulder.
Julie: "I..." I started to tear up "I...I don't know, and Carly I think she said that was her name, was selling some kind of cookies called Girl Scout Cookies." I said softly
Craig: "Oh...that's right. I forgot they were doing that today...well, just make sure she’s lying down, and give me your address. I'll come right over."
Julie: I take the phone to Groo "W..whats the address here?" I asked tears streaking my cheeks. "H..He wants to come here, but I don't know the address, I never was allowed to before." I said to Groo, but also into the phone.
Groo: I kiss Carly on the top of her head and look up as Julie asks me the address. I take the phone from her, noticing the tears on her face. I speak into the phone, giving him the address.
Craig: I take the address from the man that took the phone from the girl I just talked to. I wrote down the address. "Can I speak to my daughter, please?" I asked him.
Groo: "Of course, sir," I say. "Carly, your father would like to speak with you," I say, handing her the phone.
Carly: I took the phone. "Hi Daddy. I'm not sure what happened, she was just standing there and staring and then she fell." I started to get upset again, but daddy told me it would be okay, that he would be here soon, Carly: and for me to be a good girl.
Craig: Carly sounded freaked out, but I managed to calm her down. "I love you, sweetheart. I'll be there soon, okay, my work isn't far from this address. Alright. See you soon." She told me she loved me again and >
Craig: and then we said our goodbyes and hung up. I practically flew out of the hospital to my car.
Carly: I gave Mr. Groo the phone back. "He's coming soon. Thank you." I told Mr. Groo, laying my head on his shoulder again.
Groo: "That is excellent, little one," I say softly to her. "I am certain everything will be all right. He will arrive soon." I look over at Julie, "Are you all right, my sweet Julie?"
Julie: I shake my head "I..I need to...I need water." I said as I quickly left the room. Something didn't seem right about this...but what was it?
Miranda: So dark. Then not so dark. I moaned as I started to wake up. It was just a dream, a bad dream...
Groo: I am confused by her reaction, but I know she will speak to me when she is prepared to. I look over at the woman, she seems to be stirring. "Why not go to your mother, little one?" I ask Carly, setting her down.
Carly: "Mommy?" I said, rushing over to her. She looked at me and gave me a little smile.
Miranda: I heard Carly calling for me. I looked at her, giving her a smile. "Hey baby...I'm okay. Just had to sleep for a minute."
Julie: I came out of the kitchen with drinks, one for Carly and one for the woman. "I..I hope water is ok." I said softly
Miranda: It wasn't a dream, but this time, I was too tired to go into shock again. "It really is you...oh my God..." I said, staring at the girl.
Julie: "Really is who?" I asked "What are you talking about?
Groo: I take Julie's hand, pulling her onto my lap. I do not know what is happening, but things seem confusing.
Carly: "Who is she, mommy? Do you know her?"
Miranda: "She's..." I started, still staring at her. "She's Julie St. James, my...my lost little girl...that I thought I would never see again, remember me telling you about that, Carly?"
Julie: "I...I don't know who you are lady, but my mom...she...she is dead." I said as I stood up and backed away panicking. Edward stopped me, but remained protetivly near me.
Groo: I look at Julie, then back to Carly and her mother, uncertain of what to do or say.
Carly: I didn't know what to say. This was all so weird.
Craig: I got to the house, recognizing my wife's car out front. I flew up the walk and knocked on the door.
Miranda: "Is that what he told you? That I was dead? That bastard." I spit out as there was knocking at the door.
Groo: I stand as I hear the knocking. "I will get the door." I walk to the door and open it for a man. "Are you Dr. Gordon?"
Craig: "Yes, I am, nice to meet you." I offered my hand to him. "Where is my wife?"
Groo: "I am The Groosalugg. She is in here," I say, opening the door and leading him to the living room.
Carly: "Daddy's here!" I said, seeing him come in. I ran over to him and he picked me up, hugging me. "Mommy's awake now."
Julie: I don't move, I just stand there. "You aren't her...you can't be."
Groo: I walk over to Julie's side, wanting to be near her, though I do not touch her.
Miranda: "Craig...I found her. She's right there. Julie St. James..." I looked over at Julie. "There's only one bastard St. James in Evangeline, Louisiana, and I happed to be the stupid idiot that married him...Miranda: I can't believe it's really you..." I started to cry.
Julie: "I...I..." I didn't know what to say and rushed away unable to breath.
Julie: Edward: "I believe this might be too much for her." I said watching as Julie rushed up the stairs.
Groo: I look to everyone, "Please excuse me, I need to attend her." I turn and go up the stairs, searching the rooms for her.
Craig: "Miranda, are you sure?" I said, walking over to her. The girl did look a lot like her, though.
Miranda: Tears ran down my face. "I'm positive. God, he must have kept her in captivity...she couldn't eat without his permission...she didn't know what a girl scout cookie was..."
Julie: I was hiding in my room in a corner, my knees to my chest my arms holding them in place as I rocked back and forth.
Edward: "I am truly sorry, but she was hardly ready for this..." I said honestly.
Groo: I open the door to the bedroom, closing it gently behind me. I walk over to where Julie sits in the corner, sitting beside her. "It will be all right, my sweet Julie," I say softly.
Miranda: "Neither was I, I swear, we weren't stalking her or anything, just selling girl scout cookies..."
Craig: "I am truly sorry about all of this. Miranda didn't mean to frighten her, we've just been searching for her for so long..."
Edward: "I am certain that you were not stalking her as you say, she has not left this house for you to have seen her....however, I believe that she is not ready for such a reunion."
Julie: I don't say a word, I just curl up in his arms and sob uncontrollably.
Groo: I wrap my arms around her, stroking her hair softly as rock her gently.
Miranda: "I understand...God I just want to wrap my arms around her and never let go again...but this must be such a shock to her...is he dead? Tell me he's dead."
Craig: "Carly, just remember, mommy is a bit stressed right now." I whispered to her. She seemed to be a bit confused at the moment.
Carly: I whispered back to daddy, "Does she need to take her pills, daddy?" He told me when they got home, she would.
Edward: "I am uncertain I can answer that as I was not there....I lets just simply say I was unable to witness his demise."
Miranda: "So that means he is dead. You told her she never had to worry about him again, I heard you."
Craig: "Honey, let's not interrogate the nice man. Why don't we go home and you lay down, okay?"
Miranda: "I'm fine, honey. I just have to know if he's dead."
Edward: Bloody hell woman, I don't honestly know...that is what I wanted to say, however I didn't. "I again say I believe he is, but I was not there."
Miranda: I sighed. "Good enough for me, I guess. Though if someone that was actually there could tell me...nevermind. I've bothered you enough for one day." I got up.
Craig: I went over and helped her up, letting Carly down. I turned to the man. "Thank you for your hospitality." I dug a card out of my wallet. "Here's my work, home and cellphone number. When Julie is ready>
Craig: have her call of these, please. She has a whole family waiting to love her. Carly's my youngest. I have two older boys. Uh, what is your name? I didn't get it..."
Edward: "Edward Lawrence, and I will be certain to have her call you when she is ready."
Miranda: "Yes, thank you..." Something occurred to me. "How does she know you people? How do you know her?"
Edward: "I...I believe I will allow her to answer that when she is ready."
Craig: "Come on dear, like he said, she'll tell you when she's ready. They seem like nice people."
Carly: "Hey Mr Lawre...Lawrence. Can you tell Mr. Groo that I said goodbye? And I'll let him know when the cookies come in. If he still wants them..."
Edward: "We most certainly still want those cookies. You may also include me for 2 boxes of the shortbread if you wish...and I will tell him for you."
Carly: I smiled. "Okay. I'll write that down on my paper. Thank you!" I said, taking Daddy's hand. "Wait, where is my paper?"
Miranda: "I thought I had it." I spotted it on the couch. I went and got it, writing down the two boxes on shortbread on it. "There we go, sweetie." I said, giving her the paper.
Craig: "Well thanks again, Mr. Lawrence. It was nice meeting you." I said, steering Miranda towards the door. Carly walked happily beside me.
Edward: "Youre quite welcome." I said as I watched them leave and shut the door.
