Mysterious charges keep appearing from the hotel. What makes it even stranger is that the people at the front desk apparently know nothing about it; we had them print off an itemized list of everything they've charged me for, and it comes to a grand total of 60 bucks in deposit and room service, not the 120 dollars plus in charges that have shown ( Read more... )

simply write a letter (must be in writing) to the card company contesting the charge. this shit happens all the time. i once got some other lady's trip to cancun charged to my corporate card and i had to prove that i was at work on the days this other chick went to cancun. they asked me about it like 2-3 separate times, like i was suddenly going to break down and confess i charged a vacation to the company. apparently people do try to rip off expense accounts in that manner though.

also, if you are using a debit, as opposed to a credit, card, my advice is to get rid of it because it is way too easy for people to relieve you of all your cash in the US with a debit card. apparently in canada they have codes in place that make it harder, but i have met many us people who have lost money with debit cards. they're bad business.

that stinks that it's a debit and not a credit card... still, in similar circumstances I've had luck with the "calling-them-up-and-being-a-difficult-customer" approach. good luck, anyway-

I'm begging you not to use the difficult customer approach when dealing with your debit card. This is my job. Call and get a list of all charges coming from said hotel, or if you have web banking print out all of the charges coming from them. Present this info to the hotel, let them know that if incorrect charges have been placed you will be disputing them. If nothing is taken care, when you return go into your bank (you will have to go in to sign all of the paperwork) and let them know that you are there to dispute those charges. If you have to dispute these, they should cancel your current card to prevent anymore charges from coming through, and provide you provisional credit while doing research into unauthorized charges. Just give your bank a heads up before coming in, and they can note your account.
