When Tosh and Mark had woken up that morning, Mark's bruises were worse. It didn't help that his skin was so pale, but seeing the edges of them spread and discolour, and the marks over his kidneys, she couldn't not report this, even if he simply wanted it left alone

Keith looked up from some paperwork - well, it was paper, at least - and raised his eyebrows. "Something I can help you with?"

One of the lab people, unless he missed his guess.

"Actually, yes. I wanted to report an assault-" she was interrupted by Jackson squealing and reaching for a pencil on the counter, nearly overbalancing her, "Sorry. I'm not really sure how to go about this."

Keith nodded slowly, then pulled open a drawer to retrieve some papers. "...pretty much like you just did," he said, placing the paper on the desk and inspecting the woman in front of him. "Is the assault in progress?"

He was just checking; she didn't seem urgent enough for that, but you got all sorts on this island. He needed to know if he needed to be running out of here.

"No, it happened yesterday," she sat in the chair that seemed to be for that purpose, resting her son on her knee. "It's complicated. My ex-fiance, Jackson's father, he attacked my current partner."
