Owen frowned softly. "Tosh.....what happened?"
"They got into a tight spot, lasers flying. Luke took out one of the aliens and started return fire. No one knows what direction the laser that killed Sarah Jane came from, but Luke's convinced himself it was his fault. He should have been faster, kept her from coming, never been involved - any number of reasons. He believes it was his laser blast that killed her, and because there's no way to find out for sure - we can't convince him otherwise," she said quietly, watching the young man grip the rails and look out over the water.
"Oh", Owen frowned, watching him, "Poor kid, that must be fucking awful"
"It is. Like I told you before, his Mum's a sore subject. What did you say that got him to blow up like that, though?"
"He went to see her and tried to talk to her", said Owen, "I dragged him back"
"I wondered if he might do that," Tosh replied. She frowned, watching Luke. "Poor boy."
"Yeah, well, he was fucking determined", Owen rubbed his jaw, "Got a hell of a punch on him"
"I can imagine," she replied, resting a hand over her stomach a moment, before turning to go back into the Hub.. "He'll simmer down, then He'll be alright again. Well, alright as he ever is."
Owen glanced worredly at Luke again, before looking back at Tosh, catching the movement. "...Tosh?"
"Hm?"
"Tosh, Pet, I've been a doctor for years, I know the hand on the belly thing", he looked at her pointedly.
"Damn," she sighed. "I was doing so well until Jack figured it out. I hope I don't slip up back home," she scowled at herself.
"What I don't know?", Owen blinked, "Do I get thicker or summat?"
"You've been busy over the moon about Jack's," she said. "And until today, I hadn't slipped up."
Owen blinked again. "Jacks?"
Tosh rolled her eyes, "Of course Ianto wouldn't have told you." She shook her head. "Jack and I are both pregnant, Owen, only nobody knows about mine but him, yet."
Owen blinked slowly. "Oh....kay", he said, then blinked again, "Wait....waitwaitwait, does this mean I?"
"Get to be a father, yes," she said, then kissed him. "Jack's carrying yours, I've got Doyle's - and I'm not telling you when we're respectively due, because I'm hoping you'll forget this conversation and not actually catch on about me straight away."
Owen returned the kiss, a goofy smile, even rarer than his proper smile, crossing his face. "I'll be a dad"
"You'll be a dad," she reiterated, grinning back at his goofy smile.
"Wow...that's...", he chuckled, rubbing the back of his head, "Didn't expect that"
"Best sorts of surprises."
"Yeah", Owen smiled, happily, pulling her into a kiss.
Tosh giggled and kissed him back.
He smiled, resting his forehead against hers. "You're back alive, I get in a right mental place to get married, I get to be a dad", he chuckled, "The future's pretty bright"
"Of course it is. I just wish I could remember how I came back, for you."
Owen tucked a strand of hair behind her ear gently. "It'll happen by itself when it needs to", he said, "If I knew, I'd be doing it as soon as you went back home"
"I don't remember how it was when I first got back, either, Owen... maybe when you figure out how to bring me back, you should bring me back into one of the cells. Just in case."
Owen frowned, then nodded quietly. "I won't like it, but alright....see your point"
"It's the whole death weevil thing. I don't want to hurt anyone."
"I know, Pet", he mumured, pulling her in gently, "I know what it's like. It's scary at first"
"You control it better," she admitted, trying to keep reign on her emotions. The moment she didn't, it'd flicker through. "Pregnancy makes it harder as it is."
"I've had longer", he pointed out, then sighed, "I bet it does, I'm sorry, Pet"
"Sometimes I just want to let it go and ride along."
"I know that feeling", he frowned, "That usually ends in bad places. Maybe you could do it if you founded a secluded spot with me?"
"Maybe..."
Owen offered her a smile, "Can't hurt me, pet"
She smiled slightly back. "Where do you suggest? You sure you won't flip out? You did when I got angry with Luke in your journal."
"I can deal now, I was....surprised, then", he chuckled, then considered, "Any of the abandoned buildings that seem to be sodding everywhere around here?"
"Lead on, Dr. Harper."
Owen smiled, taking her hand, leading her to his beloved Honda.
Tosh went quietly, resting her head against the back of the seat once she was buckled in, closing her eyes.
Owen cast her a slightly worried glance, before getting in the drivers seat, tearing off to the site. Owen never believed in speed restrictions.
"Owen?" she asked as he drove breakneck, her eyes still closed.
"Hmmm?", he asked, not taking his eyes off the road.
"I love you."
Owen's face changed into a soft smile as he pulled to a stop. "I love you, too, Tosh"
She smiled softly and sighed, then yelped, sitting up.
"Tosh?", Owen looked at her, concerned.
"Okay, that's not supposed to happen yet," she said to herself.
"What's not supposed to happen yet?", he asked, "Tosh?"
"You're not supposed to feel the baby move until five months or so,... right?"
"Right", said Owen, then blinked, "Oh....you can?"
"Uh hum."
"Hmm", Owen moved closer, putting his hand on her stomach, "Maybe it's because of the part demon thing?"
"Between the demon and the alien, you're going to scold me for not having told you yet, aren't you."
"Yes", said Owen, "Future me might actually do that hand flaily thing"
Tosh winced.
"Yeah", Owen chuckled, "But I know me and I'd forgive you pretty quick"
"Well, I suppose that's comforting," Tosh frowned.
"Come on, Pet", Owen offered her a lopsided smile, "It'll be alright"
"I'll have Janet tell him instead. Or Fenwick."
Owen laughed. "Yeah, that'll soften the blow plenty"
"I could be hiding far far away and by the time you find me you'll have calmed down," Tosh decided.
Owen arched a brow. "Nice work, there, Brain, what's your plan for tomorrow night?"
She stuck her tongue out at him and unbuckled, getting out of the car.
Owen laughed, childishly returning the gesture as he climbed out himself.
She lifted her chin slightly as she looked at the warehouse, then approached the door before quietly opening it, waving at Owen to keep quiet.
Owen narrowed his eyes, his hand automatically going to his gun, following her silently.
She looked back at him, black eyes rolling, if possible. "putaway." and she slipped inside.
He blinked, taking aback a little by the whole weevil thing....that was going to take some getting used to. He sighed, following her inside, squinting in the dark.
About twenty weevils were asleep to their left.... to their right, a policeman was stuffed into a large dog's cage.
Owen paused, then took a deep, calming breath, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Why does everyone think he's a credit to the force again?".
"Perhaps because he's still alive," Tosh replied, her voice carrying that otherworld hollow quality as she approached the cage.
Owen shooked his head, peeking into it. "Andy", he whispered.
The blond head shot up, and his eyes widened. They darted back and forth between the black-eyed Tosh, and Owen, and he scrambled backward all three inches he had to scramble. "But you're DEAD!" he hissed, eyes darting at the sleeping weevils. "Dead and... am I dead? Why am I dead in a CAGE of all things, I thought, but that makes no sense, you're DEAD!" he squeaked.
"Oh for fuck's sake", muttered Owen, "Police liason my arse. Andy, shut up, you're not dead. I'm not dead and Tosh...well she's currently not dead. No one is dead but if you make too much noise there's a good chance you will be, you norbet"
Andy groaned quietly, "Nobody tells me anything," he complained. "It's not like anybody lets me in your super secret lair - are you going to let me out of here before those things wake up?!" he whispered urgently.
Tosh glared at him and half-growled.
"Be nice, Tosh, it's not his fault he's....Andy", said Owen, "No, Torchwood is not for puppies maskquerading as policemen". He glanced at the cage, trying to open it. "How the hell did you get into this mess anyway?"
"No idea," PC Andy lied.
"They are not things."
"When did she get scary?" Andy whispered to Owen.
"She isn't scary, she's summat like wot I am now", said Owen, "Oh, so you just magically appeared in a dog box in a weevil den, did you?"
He pet Tosh's arm comfortably.
"That's the story I'm sticking with."
Tosh shook off Owen's hand and went over to investigate the weevils.
Owen face palmed, then glanced at Tosh. "Be careful", he whispered to her, working the lock off Andy's cage.
Andy sulked as he watched Tosh crouch beside one of the aliens, touching it's shoulder.
Owen watched her a moment, before pulling the door open quietly. "You stand on any of them and I'll shoot you myself, and then I'll have to put up with Gwen bitching at me"
"I'm not going to stand on them, I'm getting far away as I ca-" he cut off as his eyes`widened when the wevil Tosh touched raised it's head and looked at her.
"Don't panic, don't run", said Owen in an even voice, "Just walk slowly to the door and don't make eye contact with 'em"
Andy, to his credit, did just as Owen said, though he kept Owen between himself and them.
Tosh locked eyes with the weevil and made a low sound.
Owen watched Andy, waiting for him to make it to the door, before walking quietly over to Tosh.
The weevil with her had crouched before her and had one hand on her stomach. Tosh was smiling slightly, then started softly laughing.
"Wot?", Owen asked, arching a brow. "Am I missing a joke here?"
Tosh looked at him, as the weevil she was talking to went supplicant to Owen. "Andy was here when they retired."
Owen chuckled, pausing a moment, a little uneasy, before letting his own pupils go black. "Is that a fact? In the cage, too?"
"funnyyellowhair cagehere, strange." the weevil replied.
"See?" Tosh said. "We should find out who put Andy in here, and if they knew about the weevils. He's lucky they found him funny."
"Stupid prat probably locked himself there pretending he was 'Captain Andy' again", muttered Owen, before looking at the weevil, "Yellowhairreallystrange, greatfulfornokilling"
"Yellowhair nothreat, Lordowen."
Tosh smiled, squeezing the weevil's shoulder as she stood up beside him. "Gratefulstill."
Owen nodded, before looking at Tosh. "Let's get PC Idiot sorted out then".
Tosh nodded, thanked the weevil and let her go back to sleep as she went back to the door, putting one hand to her head as she fought to get back into 'humanity' mode.
Owen kissed the back of her neck soothingly, brushing his hands along her arms, his own eyes going back to brown. "I'm here, Pet, you can do it", he murmured softly into her ear.
She leaned back against him and tried harder.
Owen rested his chin on her shoulder, letting out a comforting purr.
She purred back instinctively, and slowly relaxed. When she opened her eyes again, the sclera was white once more. She turned her head to kiss his cheek. "Thank you," she said softly.
"Anytime, love", he replied, his voice soft and gentle, a warm smile on his face, so differnet from the man he was when his walls were up.
She turned in his arms and slid hers over his shoulders and kissed him.
Owen was more than happy to return it, his arms moving protectively around her waist, his hands resting on her back as he kissed her deeply. He'd missed her so much, a guilty, selfish part of him didn't want her to go back...to be without her again.
