I agree. I used to be that person too and a couple of years I went through a major change with it. Not to say I'm any more religious but I stopped seeing religious faith as a personality flaw or a flaw in rationalism. I think it makes a person well-rounded to take other people's points of views and beliefs into consideration. It's not really a right or wrong issue I don't think... more just whatever helps a person make it through the day. :)

I totally agree with you on this. I think it's part of gaining more maturity and perhaps confidence in forming your own opinions when you can step away from that angry athiest zone.

No i made an exception for you. I can still hate you because you believe in God. I'm just going to be more tolerant of everyone else!
AGH. I should be doing my judaism essay now. I even got up early for it too. I'm trying this new 'do three essays in one week' thing. I'm not liking it so far.

'Religion is clearly rubbish' is quite different from 'My opinion is that religion is rubbish' and I wouldn't call that sort of opinion fanaticism ( ... )

Ok, if 'Religion is clearly rubbish' is no different from 'My opinion is that religion is rubbish' then why did you say 'the only difference is...' ? There is clearly a difference. It may not be a big difference I know. As you said, in the first case you've implied it is your opinion but are stating it as more of a fact than opinion. You can't state facts about things that nobody has the answers to but you can express an opinion, and that's why they are different. Using the word 'opinion' usually implies respect for other opinions, but stating unknowns as facts implies lack of respect ( ... )

Yay!

Thank you for posting this! Recently I'm becoming more and more fed up with the amount of anti-religious material around... Especially the stuff written by a certain man whose name starts with 'D' and rhymes with Bawkins.

I'm religious, and I'll defend my beliefs if I have to, but it's just ridiculous to go on the offensive as far as the topic's concerned. Dawkins' description of religious education as 'child abuse' on The Panel really pissed me off. I read his new book too, just cos, and found it simply ignorant and offensive.

I'm really impressed by your tolerance... Wish there were more like you!

I definitely agree with you on the whole 'teen atheism' issue. I think at the moment it's very 'in' to be anti-religion of any variety. Even being non-religious myself i still get the occasional problem from people when i mention that i am studying Judaism and Islam in college.

I have actually seen Saved, i thought it was pretty good considering what i had expected when i rented it. Completely random idea for a movie though, i would love to hear how they pitched that!

I hadn't actually considered the idea of being passionate about something in relation to religion for some reason. I mean i realised that people are passionate about religion but i was putting it more down to faith, now that you bring it up though i think that's one of the best ways i've heard to describe the kind of religious views which i admire. And yes, fanaticism sucks.
