Slept since the last post, got woken up by Dad. He has now been informed - he didn't know - about the torrential downpour that occurred while I was in DMV. He no longer assumes I am a shitty driver.

Also, Spider, what the fuck is a metaquote?

as much as i love you immensely right how, how do you not know what a metaquote is?! you are so out of the "IN" club right now, i don't think you get the severity of that, man. but basically it means youre cool and will be getting lots of random comments from people who either a) like what youre saying b) dont like what youre saying c) "lollersk8z!" at your icon or d) think youre hot.

It's people quoting people from livejournal. Meta comes from the fandom side of things, where people put META in the post to show that it isn't fanfiction -- it's about people who write fanfiction or people in general in this case, I guess.

I got metaquoted once. :x

I rolled my car at about 19 years of age also. Backwoods of Hampton Bays.
40mph maybe, shifted to 2nd instead of 3rd for a turn. Rear wheels came around and I skidded sideways on dry pavement till the traction caught up with me and over I went. I climbed out the passenger side door, like a hatch on a submarine.
SInce it was 1am on a deserted road, no one was coming. I beeped S-O-S on the horn for 20 minutes and a cop came.
So much for my rol over story. I'd almost forgotten it. I still know more about tires, traction and driving then you've had a chance to forget.
Whatever the cause was, I was quite relieved to hear you were OK. A little puffy though huh?
For reference, fast = smooth inputs. Gas, brakes, and steering. Stomping the gas, cranking over the wheel and standing on the brakes are sure signs that a driver has little or no driving skill.
Try those inputs on a bike and you'll wish you were back in the SUV right quick.

i got here from metaquotes too... i'm glad your dad calmed down. when i had my accident (a rollover going down a hill and falling off an embankment due to brake failure), my dad also tried to blame it on me, saying that if i took better care of my car, the brakes would not have failed, since the brakes depend on the battery (OMGWTFSTUPIDENGINEERINGLIKEWHOA) and failed when the car stalled out at the top of the hill. never mind that i stomped the manual emergency brake and it didn't even slow the car down.

so, apparently, "blame the driver, no matter how much evidence to the contrary is presented, at least until you've had time to chill the fuck out a little" is the genetically programmed paternal reaction to rollover accidents almost killing their offspring.
