That's probably because normal DSs can't handle chinese script. Apparently the chinese DS lite has extra firmware so that it can process the chinese writing system. So while DS games from all reagions can be played on chinese DSes, chinese games can NOT be played on non chinese DSes. Weird huh?

They're awesome! Come highly recommended whenever you can get your hands on one. And thank you! I can't wait until I can afford to buy some actual games for the thing ^^
I totally almost got one of those (though not in pink) a couple of weeks ago.
Then I remembered: I'm broke! -__-;;
Lemme know how you like it once you actually get something to play on it. I know you've already played with other people's systems, but it's always different when it's your own.
They're worth it. You don't need to actually own one to know they're worth it. The things are fucking cheap for the amount of value you get out of them. Seriously. And they come with chat and stuff built in. It's pretty awesome. I was so jealous of all my friends playing 8-player Mario Kart on the train to Hakone in May. ;_; (with Mario Kart only one person needs the actual game and up to 4 people can play off that one cartridge.. so only 2 people need to actually own the game for the max 8-player version)
And I'm broke, too. You know how I managed to buy this? I got a $300 loan from my sister for survivial money. -_-
I had literally ¥1000 yen in my pocket before she gave me the loan, and only ¥5000 left the day after buying the DS Lite and J single.. then Eric spent ¥4000 of that on groceries X_x. Thankfully I had a tutoring gig on Monday, so I'm back up to a good ¥3000 now....
Everyday for the last 5 days I've nearly left work for a break and gone down the street to EB games and bought the damn thing. Once, I even went in. >_>;;
It's only in white in the states though....unless I buy it offa ebay (which will cost more), I don't see any Enamel Navy in my future...
...but maybe white would be okay. I dunno..hard... o.o;;
It'd be something to take my mind off of grad school research/applications though. I'm starting to want to just put a gun to my head and save the money! =P
If you happened to know someone in Japan you could always send them money and ask them to try and track you down one of those Enamel Navy ones, you know. Of course they've been kinda sold out and hard to come by in many areas in Japan, but with persistence it's possible that one could be found somewhere like a local game shop.. or a reservation could be put in at one of the major retailers for their next shipment.
