and speaking of chinese fans-- i got like 349234059 of my mom's old ones and they are all so tiny and pretty and light and (as you say) delicate. the wooden ones are the best. they have all these intricate designs cut into them.

that sounds amazing. I saw this neat victorian drawing that had a woman yawning behind a translucent fan and a very boring man saying "I think you aren't interested!" and the caption was something like "Beware the problems of translucent fans"
