Keep in mind that totems do retain their animal natures; your fear may have been a trigger to the predatory nature of Tarantula. Or, for that matter, s/he may have deliberately knocked you over to bring that fear out.

Oh thanks! I'll keep that in mind for next time.

I remember seeing some real tarantulas acting like that in the pet store (content to be handled one moment, lunging at you like a tiger the next). Perhaps looking up their information or observing real ones can help give you some insight.

Additionally (keep in mind that I'm no totemic expert or anything even close to that, and I'm just taking a stab based on what you're writing here), I wonder if there's something going on in your life that you're scared or wary of and you need help to confront it. When tarantulas are afraid (and in real life, they're much more scared of you than you are of them, trust me), they will raise up their fangs and front legs and end up exposing their underbelly to your eyes as a defense mode.

Wow. I've actually never seen a tarantula in a pet store except really recently. Mostly mammals, birds and the occasional reptile. Thanks, I was thinking about doing that earlier, since it might be easier to learn about the animal itself, instead of just in a totem context.

Well, I'm worried about getting money for school, even though it's my last year and everything has been fine so far. And I'm stressed/worried about money problems in general, and a lot of "post college life". I have an idea about what I want to do, but at the same time, I feel like all my plans could be thrown to the wind at any moment. (I say that because I've been trying to open myself up spiritually, and I'm very preoccupied with my life path, and I worry that MY plans don't fit in with what the Universe has in store for me o.o).

I'd be knocking you over too to get you to snap out of this mindset and go forth with your plans. "Get out of your burrow and snatch up some prey ( ... )

Maybe that's the spider equivalent of whacking you upside the head XD

:D I believe that. I found a really nifty totem dictionary by Steven Farmer online. After reading through what Tarantula means, especially as my totem, it makes a lot of sense. How Tarantulas are solitary, and I definitely consider myself a loner, even though I do enjoy company with good friends.

they couldn't even be in the same room with me without getting killed), but after realizing spiritual connections between me and spider I've gradually reduced that fear over the past year to the point where they actually crawl on m e once in a while , and live to tell the tale, lol.

That reminds me of my cousins. If they saw a spider, they would run out into the hall, freaking out. And of course, fear is contagious, so I would be out there with them until their dad came. And right after the meditation, it took me like an hour to get to bed, and even later on, I felt like there was something crawling on me or that there were spiders under my covers. o.o;;

Now I got a ( ... )
