Ghosts? Negatively charged ectoplasmic energy that can phase out of reality. It takes a charged particle accelerator and a particle thrower to snare one of the suckers.

I can go into more detail, if you'd like. That's a very, very basic explanation, and I haven't even gone into trapping and long-term containment.

It's... nevermind. The ship translates one another's speech and writing into each individual's mother tongue, I'd forgotten. Would have been useful over having to learn ancient Sumerian back in '84.
