broccoli and cheddar soup
One of the first things I got from Baldor, back in April, was a 6 pound 1/8-wheel of the most delightful cheddar cheese. So of course I had to come up with recipes to use it.

Long ago I was a huge Depeche Mode fan. Enough of a fan to go see them at the Forum in LA -- a terrible concert venue, especially for a band that's really not so great in concert -- and enjoy it anyway.

potato pancakes
I've been sublimating all of my anxiety into cooking, and particularly into making dishes I haven't made before. It's been very tasty!

brown butter bananas foster
I've made Bananas Foster twice now, once with all the correct ingredients and once without. Without was better, so much so that I'm going to call it a new recipe.
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) salted butter
2/3 cup white sugar
1/4 cup good dark sipping rum (I used Barbancourt 8)
3 bananas, peeled and cut lengthwise and crosswise (that is, 12 banana pieces)

cheesecake
I made the Food Network's mascarpone cheesecake last night (minus the topping) and it is *amazing*.
This recipe has a subtle flavor balance and changes to it should be undertaken carefully. I did make three small changes: sliced almonds instead of slivered which I thought would toast up better, a little more butter in the crust (perhaps 1.5-2 tbsp ( Read more... ) -

It turns out it's possible to put too many blueberries in a blueberry pancake. Or put another way a griddle is not a good way to make blueberry cobbler.

oh that's how it's supposed to work
I've been occasionally using twoseven.xyz to watch videos with people. The idea is that there's a video/audio chat right there with the movie you're watching, so you can react and it's supposedly awesome.
Except there's no echo cancellation, so if the person you're watching with doesn't mute you get the media audio twice. So much for being able to ( Read more... )
