Personal History:
Rory Diarmuid Flanagan was born on October 6th 1996 in Kilkenny, Ireland. The fourth child and only boy to be born to Diarmuid and Órlaith Flanagan, Rory had a grand time growing up. Rory's da was a milkman and his ma was a home-maker who helped out at the local church, and although the Flanagan family weren't rolling in money, all four of their children had a happy childhood. In being the only boy, Rory spent a lot of time around his sisters Brighid, Eireann, and Saoirse - all of whom made a lasting mark on the impressionable Rory. He followed his sisters around and allowed them to mother him, which only made the connections to his family stronger. He definitely grew up into a mammy's boy, being spoiled and fussed over by everybody for being the baby and the only boy. Rory didn't mind at all though, growing up into a cheerful and optimistic - albeit rather naïve and innocent - young man.
Music had always been a staple in the Flanagan household. All of them were regular church-goers and Rory sang at Mass every Sunday from the age of four. His older sisters were always playing music around the house, his ma was never without the radio on while she worked in the kitchen, and Rory always heard his da whistling before leaving to do the early morning milk run. It was no surprise when an eight year old Rory exclaimed that one day he was going to be a singer like one of his main inspirations, Bono. The grand thing was that everybody in his family believed him and even encouraged him to follow his dreams.
Another of Rory's passions was America. Nobody really knew why the young boy became so obsessed with the Land of the Free but from the age of ten onwards, he simply wouldn't shut up about it. It was what prompted one of his school teachers to suggest the international exchange program that eventually led Rory to Ohio, and to William McKinley High. It took quite a bit of saving for his family to send him, for which Rory is endlessly grateful. Despite America not being exactly what he thought it would be like, he maintains to his family that it's the best thing in the world. He does like it for the most part, but it definitely isn't anything he expected. He's slowly learning to adapt though and he feels that with more friends, America might just be as grand as he imagined it would be.

There are so many things about America that I love. I don't think I could list all of them or else I'd be here 'til the cows come home but it's so grand to be here! It's not what I expected a wee bit different to how I imagined but I'm having an amazing time so far!
Fun fact for you all - y'know that they don't do Lucky Charms back home any more? Lucky the Leprechaun up stix and moved over here, leaving the native land behind. I guess I can say I've done the same!
Oh, for those who don't know me - the name's Rory Flanagan and yes, the accent is real. ;)
Third Person
To say that Rory was excited would have been a gross understatement. He had feared that the man who had sat next to him on the fight might have hurt him had he been given the chance, seeing as all Rory had done since they'd taken off was chatter on elaborately about their destination. In having never even been on an aeroplane before, he had shown his simultaneous excitement and nerves by talking, finding it difficult to stop himself. The air hostesses had seemed to find him endearing enough to engage his curiosity by coming to talk to him frequently, and the thought that they might have been doing such a thing to appease the man beside him didn't even cross the young Irishman's mind.
All too soon, the flight had landed. Walking out into the terminal after obtaining his luggage, Rory adjusted the bowler hat that sat atop his head as he tried to take in his surroundings. There was so much to see that he didn't think he could manage to absorb everything. He mostly ignored the people who nudged into him, the wonder of being in such a place too astounding for him to care much about anything else. It was brilliant, amazing, everything he'd hoped for and more - and he hadn't even left the airport yet!
Eventually coming to spot his name being held up on a sign, he shrugged his backpack onto his shoulder more before pulling his case towards his welcome party with a euphoric grin.
He was here, in America. Finally.
