Another computer illustration. Maybe I'll work on a third this afternoon - I have an idea or two in mind. And maybe later I can tie them together for a portfolio promotional piece.
I like the concept and line-work. It's very difficult to pull off some of those shading techniques and curves in Illustrator, so you should feel pretty good about that.
Have you considered playing with textures at all? Since a lot of the shapes are already blocked out, try filling them with different fabric and paper types. For example, heavy canvas for the shirt, denim for the overalls, wood for the sticks, etc.
The problem with using textures there is that the designs are flat. It would look like I just cut and pasted a type of paper in the shape that I want. It might be interesting for something else, but I considered and decided not to use them here.
I have a good feeling about it, because it's a flat design. Lisa does a lot of paper crafts, so a digital version using Illustrator might be a fun experiment to try.
