retreats, camps, mission trips, and things of the sort typically get people "fired up", if you will. they go to these things to receive spiritual rejuvenation, and quite often they do. one of the most common phrases i hear to describe such things is a "mountain-top experience". it is this idea of getting a spiritual "high" from such an event. i ( Read more... )

Maybe, it's not all about the mountain top. After all, it most likely won't feel great. I mean think about it. Look at the end Paul met, or the end Peter met. The matyrs for Christ did not really reach a mountain top as your post was describing people look for. Moreover, those people really miss the point completely as to what they're looking for. They go in looking for a thing that will make them rise in happiness and good feelings. Yet it seems, some of the times your most intimate with Christ are the times that you're suffering the most. That's not to say that you cannot have intimate times with Christ while being in good cicumstances, it's just stating that usually people look for Christ in a great and safe place rather than the danger zones ( ... )
