On the Shores of Grand Cayman Part 2

Disclaimer: This is a total figment of my imagination and anything resembling reality is a mistake.

Stepping off the plane in the Cayman Islands Murilo wondered why on earth Jonathan had decided this was a good idea. Cloudless blue sky and more sun than he was really comfortable definitely wouldn’t put it anywhere in the Vampire holiday guide. He was definitely asking why they were here. Sure he got the whole merger thing and it being good that they got together preseason but it didn’t have to be somewhere with so much sun.

The accommodation wasn’t a big improvement. Sure it probably looked nice if you were a human what with the large patio doors that lead pretty much straight out onto the beach and wispy curtains. They just did nothing to cut out the light and with this weather he was going to need some help or he wouldn’t have enough blood to keep him going even if they were only going to be here for a few days.

Jonathan strolled into his room dressed casually in shorts and a t-shirt, thankfully with no argyle in sight. At least for now, Murilo figured there would be a change it would make an appearance in an hour or two when everyone else arrived and things got a little more official. “Wasn’t sure if you’d want your own room or if you’d prefer to share,” Jonathan said.

He really wasn’t in the mood for more subtle hints. Flying and unnecessary sun exposure always made him cranky. After he’d packed and had something to eat he’d feel a lot better and he could unwind before he’d have to be sociable. “Is that your subtle attempt to tell me I should make nice with Tyler?”

Ever since that night he’d been trying not to think about Tyler and for the most part it had worked. Jonathan hadn’t been overly pushy for which he’d been grateful but apparently that was all about to end. He’d been expecting it, there was only so long friendship could put aside something that could upset the dynamic of the team. At least he presumed that would be the reason given if he felt the need to ask.

He wasn’t sure he wanted to have to deal with it, especially if Tyler wasn’t going to be the one making the first move. Of the two of them Tyler was the one who was fearless, but that was reckless with a vampire so someone had to be the voice of reason around here. Jonathan was apparently just going with whatever would make his life easier. “There’s been a bit more of a major reshuffle with the teams merging and it’d be good if everyone could place nice together,” Jonathan paused. “Besides if you won’t play nice with Tyler then I don’t stand much of a chance with everyone else.”

“I’m not making any promises.”

It was the most Murilo was prepared to give right now and it would give him some breathing room before Jonathan started asking what exactly it was he’d done to correct the situation. Maybe if he was really lucky training camp would be over before any questions could be asked. Jonathan took his answer as an agreement with his suggestion and smiled. “Just let me know if you’re going to tweak with the room allocation, I like to keep my forms all neat.”

Murilo rolled his eyes and decided not to comment. Jonathan’s love of forms and correct data were somewhat infamous in their circles. At least now he was finally starting to make the transition to digital because otherwise he’d be running out of room to put it all. The important things were still all handwritten but at least now there were fewer questions asked about Jonathan’s distinctive penmanship.

“I’d prefer it if you kept better track of your off-book supplies,” Murillo commented. “Obviously you’re not as interested in your inventory as you are on who’s sharing whose bed.”

“I need some entertainment and you never know when it might come in handy!” Jonathan responded as he looked around the room. “They should be a bag around here somewhere; I was very specific about which rooms I wanted them to go. I’ll go see if I can track it down and you can unpack or whatever it is you want to do. It’s just going to be the team here so you can make yourself comfortable.”

“Think I can manage that.”

He’d just put his suitcase in the bottom of the wardrobe out of the way when there was a knock on the half open door. Murilo didn’t have to look to know who it was, he’d been aware of Tyler ever since that night. When he did it was to see Tyler carrying a large black holdall through the doorway. “I think this was meant to be for you,” Tyler said.

He crossed the room and took hold of the bag, putting it on the bed with relative ease. Jonathan’s instructions had indeed been very specific, they just hadn’t been for delivery to his room Murilo realised. He wasn’t sure if it was because Jonathan had worried he’d say no to the request or whether it was just a helpful nudge in the right direction given how reluctant he’d been.

He unzipped the bag and the curtains inside removed any doubt as to whether it was merely an excuse for them to talk or not. Murilo felt strangely disappointed even though he knew it was for the best that they not speak. “You’re right on the beach!” Tyler exclaimed and walked over to the patio door and slid it open.

He watched as Tyler kicked off his shoes and then stepped out. The smile that appeared as his feet sank into the sand made Murilo walk across the room intent on being closer. The urge to taste that happiness came out of nowhere and made him stop before he crossed from his room onto the brief deck before the sand.

Tyler walked along oblivious and then held out his arms and spun around. Murilo got a glimpse of Tyler as a child, bucket and spade in hand running around and splashing in the surf. He’d have loved to have seen that sight but the one he had now was good enough. The smile on his face froze as he realised what he was doing. He was too old for fantasies and they weren’t going to get him anywhere good.

Movement in front of him brought his attention back to an approaching Tyler. The grin told its own story and for a moment he was glad this was where Jonathan had brought them. “If you don’t like your room I have no problem swapping with you. I should warn you I only have a single bed and I’m sharing with Julian so I’d definitely be getting the better end of the deal.”

Murilo wasn’t quite so sure that was true given he’d have Tyler in his bed. Granted he wouldn’t be in it but that wasn’t he point. Tyler would have the exact same look on his face he had now every morning and Murilo would be responsible for it. It was an idea he could fully support and he didn’t really need the double bed...

Tyler brushed up against him trying to get through the small gap back into the room. He took a step back and hands grasped at his hips. “I didn’t ask you to move,” Tyler murmured.

This close it was impossible not to breathe in Tyler’s scent and he found himself automatically leaning forward. He wanted to be closer, to be able to press his face against Tyler’s neck and be surrounded by it.

His hands grasped at Tyler to keep the other man close as he did just that. He made a contented sound and tightened his grip even thought Tyler had made no attempt to move away. Fingers threaded through his hair and he didn’t control the impulse to lick the length of Tyler’s neck. “Murilo,” Tyler murmured.

He wondered what other sounds he could get out of Tyler if he really put his mind to it because surely there had to be a lot of them. He repeated the action, slower so he could savour it, and this time the rumble of approval was louder.

Tyler turned his head and just like that lips caught his. He hesitated, unsure of what the correct response was in this scenario. Surely it had to be a mistake because there’d be no way Tyler would willingly kiss him, not knowing what he was. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d kissed a human but it had been a while. Things got complicated and messy in ways they didn’t with vampires.

Tyler seemed to have no reservations about what they were doing because he took charge and deepened the kiss when he didn’t get the response he wanted. Murilo didn’t put up much of a fight and was surprisingly obliging in response. His back hit the thin strip of wall behind him and Tyler pressed close.

In the same way he ceded to the demands of his sprinter during the race Murilo submitted to Tyler’s demands now. It was so easy when they were like this, so easy to pretend no time had passed between their first kiss and this. Easy to pretend this was a normal relationship and that there was nothing different about him. “You want to help me start to set up things for the team meeting or are you still sulking?” Jonathan said.

The kiss ended abruptly but Tyler’s mouth hovered over his for a moment before moving away. He glanced across and Jonathan who’s normally impeccable timing left a little to be desired this time. The smug grin wasn’t doing anything to endear him to Murilo either. Tyler appeared not to notice and he really wanted to go back to what they were doing before. He wanted to forget about training camp and keep Tyler locked away in his room for the duration.

It was that impulse which brought him back to reality with a jolt. It was strong and he knew if he didn’t get away from Tyler he’d do his best to make it a reality. He couldn’t deny the appeal and he knew just how successful behaving like that could be but he wasn’t that vampire any more. “Sure,” he said and moved away from Tyler.

“Not going to put up your curtains first?” Jonathan queried.

“Nah, I’m going to make you help when we’re done,” Murilo said as he walked out the door.
