Continuing Journey

I was shocked today while in yoga class when I realized I am now halfway through my 50th year. I have been back from the roadtrip for six weeks.Almost an entire season. It is so surreal in so many ways.

I found the re-entry into my grounded life hard the first week. I had thrived on this trip and trying to fit myself back into my roles was

gnomes

When we (those of us who are 50) were in junior high/high school, gnomes came into vogue. My mother decided I was a gnome or gnome-related because I was tiny and lived in the basement of the house. She put gnome signs up and gave me gnome stationary and other gifts. I didn't mind too much, but it got a bit old. So I surprised myself this year when I saw a garden gnome at the store and had to have it. It was a magical remembrance of my past, my mom, and a lovely friend. I haven't named him yet, but he stands guard in the window by my front door, a stern presence to anyone who comes knocking.

I love this. It makes me happy that we both embrace the magic and mirth of the gnome. And I usually get referred to as a hobbit ; )
