A voice that's loud and demanding of attention Sings a song and tells a joke, Oh, the jokes never end. Sometimes his jokes are cruel But most often they are funny And sometimes even about himself And he sets the lunch table rolling. But he has other people as well Who seem to mean more to him. He'll abandon those friends Whom he's kept for so long To join those people He seems to depend on. He does not seem to know How much his old friends think on him, How much they feel that they do not know him anymore. He goes on Dressing like his new people And acting like his new people, Except for his jokes For they are his own. His new people laugh at them But his old friends do to-- And everyone laughs And throws back their heads And they tilt in their seats And shake with the words.
If you'd like to take this up with me in person or through AIM, YIM, etc. go ahead (and I wish you would). I'd love to talk to you and discuss who I am rather than have you sit anonymously to the side with a jaded view of reality.
For all of those in the future who wish to tell me how fake I am, how much they hate me, etc., you don't have to be anonymous. I promise that I'll respect your opinions even if I don't like them.
I did not post a name because I didn't want you to read the poem with a bias. I don't hate you and I don't think your fake. I just want you to realize that your old friends still care about you and would occasionally like to spend more time with you. Maybe I'm asking for too much, I just have a hard time letting go of someone I used to be such great friends with......~A Fellow Artichoke
seems like you assumed the persons view was jaded... you must have assumed you were the joke teller in the story and felt violated that you would be considered to turn on your friends...
maybe this mirrors something that happened in your life... maybe not funny how our reactions to things give away, what we associate ourselves with, in the things we react too... funny how these objects under illumination, cast shadows of curiosity when viewing the landscape of our experience...
at least to someone who can read..
i canceld my journal, and now i journal surf, because i could learn way more about myself, posting randomly, then i ever could from teh few replies i got to my old journal. plus, its easier to hide behind anonymity, than a fake circle of friends.
maybe i identified with a couple of the characters in that story. :P

The Jester
A voice that's loud and demanding of attention
Sings a song and tells a joke,
Oh, the jokes never end.
Sometimes his jokes are cruel
But most often they are funny
And sometimes even about himself
And he sets the lunch table rolling.
But he has other people as well
Who seem to mean more to him.
He'll abandon those friends
Whom he's kept for so long
To join those people
He seems to depend on.
He does not seem to know
How much his old friends think on him,
How much they feel that they do not know him anymore.
He goes on
Dressing like his new people
And acting like his new people,
Except for his jokes
For they are his own.
His new people laugh at them
But his old friends do to--
And everyone laughs
And throws back their heads
And they tilt in their seats
And shake with the words.
