Everything hurt. Everything hurt and his head was pounding and his vision was blurring and fuck this couldn't be happening this couldn't be happening. It hurt to breathe. It hurt to try to breathe. His rib cage screamed at him with each staggered breath -- each one a little more difficult than the last. Every muscle, every single bone in his body, felt like they had been broken and shattered, ripped and torn to shreds ( ... )

Sollux had no sooner asked his rhetorical question, when the human in the bed next to his shot up with a similar sort of panic to his own. The troll bared a crowded mouthful of sharp teeth and fangs as Ed demanded answers he didn't have.

"What the fuck? That wath my quethtion. Not that I've gotten an anthwer yet," he said, hating his lisp. Why couldn't he at least be able to talk like a normal person, especially when he was meeting someone for the first time?

The kid was blond, but he didn't look like the other blond humans Sollux had seen. Not that he'd paid much attention. Trolling the humans was stupid, as he had told everyone, but it wasn't as though anyone listened to him. He was just tech support in their inane quest to look like complete losers in front of the last members of an alien race.

"Who are you?" he asked, red and blue eyes narrowing behind his glasses. "Are you TG?"

"Hey, I asked you first. You tell me your name and I'll tell you mine. And what the hell is TG?"

Ed's brow furrowed, not at Sollux's lisp, because he didn't care about that. Right now he was trying to figure out what he was. His skin was a weird color, and Ed was pretty sure there were horns on his head and then... those teeth.

"Are you a chimera?"

Sollux took a step towards the human kid. He was in no mood to have much of anything dictated to him. But then he stopped, reconsidering. If his yell and confusion was anything to go by, Ed was as confused as Sollux was, which meant they were sort of in the same boat.

Fuck.

"I'm Thollukth Captor," he said. "Tho now you have my name. TG ith a human I know who lookth like you. What'th a chimera?"

A frown pulled at his lips, watching Sollux carefully as he approached. So was he a chimera? Was he one of Kimblee's goons? Ed was done dealing with those bastards.

Wait. So he didn't know what chimera was...? If Sollux was one, he wouldn't need to ask what they were. He would have known. That's not the kind of thing that you can forget.

"It's creature created by using alchemy to combine two dissimilar creatures into a new, complete form." Enjoy your textbook answer, Sollux. This is not a topic he enjoys discussing.

"Name's Edward Elric, by the way."

Sollux blinked at the kid. "I'm not a creature, and I wathn't created uthing alchemy, dumpathh. I'm a troll, actually, and I wath hatched from an egg like normal!"

Stupid humans.

So he wasn't TG, or any of the others, he was pretty sure. And that was weird, because if he wasn't any of the four humans, how had he survived the end of their world? Unless he had been brought from his world before it was destroyed, which he supposed was possible.

Trolls didn't exist where he was from. Maybe in stories and fairytales, but they weren't real. The only logical explanation was that he was a chimera. It wasn't a process every person survived and not all of them ended up keeping their sanity.

Ed stared. His eyes narrowed. "... And you're calling me a dumbass? How the hell is hatching from an egg normal? People don't hatch, dumbass."

Sollux scowled. Stupid humans and their ignorance of trolls. "What DO 'people' do, then?" he demanded. "How elthe would you be hatched if not out of an egg?"

"Wha--"

And that shut him up.

"We're born we don't hatch"

Ed was not going to have "THE TALK" with Sollux. This was not going to happen. Not here. Not now. Not ever. No, no, no, no.

Sollux shrugged. He really didn't want to know. At all. "Oh right, you're mammalth, right? Fucking dithguthting thpecieth."

He waved that off. Really, now was not the time to discuss human reproduction. If there ever was a time for that, it was not now.

"Look, I'm an alien from another world. And technically, I wath part of creating your world, but I really don't care about that. What I care about ith figuring out where we are, and why. Are you with me on that, Edward Elric?" At least he could say HIS name, even if he couldn't say his own.

No, there would never be a time for that. Maybe from someone else, but not from Ed. No, no, no.

He'd seen enough the first time he went through the Gate to know that his world wasn't the only planet with life, but as far as this guy being part of creating his world? Yeah, no. It wasn't important and he really didn't care either way.

"Good to hear because I don't care at all, but I'm with you on that"

"Okay," Sollux said. They were on the same page, then, and he looked around the room a bit more. There seemed to be two more empty beds, and there was a--

There was a note next to the bed he'd woken up in.

Sollux walked back to his bed and picked up the note to read.

And as Sollux walked back towards his bed, Ed found the note next to his. He was quiet as he read. That didn't last long.

This. This was a joke right? He reread everything twice over, focusing on five words: your world has been destroyed.

"What the... what the fuck?" He looked up, eyes wide. Sollux was reading something too. "Did you get one of these?"

"Yeah," Sollux said, then tossed the note on the bed again. "Ath if there wath anything in there I didn't already know. No one thaid anything about uth being taken here after our world wath dethtroyed, though."

"Wait. Your world was... it was actually destroyed?" This doesn't make sense. It couldn't be gone. There was no way.
