So, naturally, it was decided that asking Aqua was his best bet. He didn't know her nearly as well, but she was a sensible woman, and she knew Ven, too. If anyone could give him straight information, it was her.
...he still felt awkward when he knocked on the door to her room, though. But it was better to put this silly theory to rest before he sat an worried himself sick.

So when the sound at the door reached her ears, she eagerly slipped off of her bed, closing the book in her lap and setting it gingerly back in her trunk before she went to answer the door. Aqua set her hand on the knob, and even twisted it a little, but a thought struck her before she went through with actually opening up the barrier to the room's threshold.
"Who is it?" questioned the woman, trying not to sound too suspicious. She had to be a little more careful in this tower. Who knew what could be lurking?

A pause, and he ventured a guess.
"It's...sort of about Ven."

Satisfied with what she saw, Aqua opened the door completely so that she could step out of the room, offering a friendly smile. Once she was out in the hallway, she closed the door behind her. She normally would have invited Roxas into the room to talk, but considering the room wasn't entirely her own, she thought it was probably best to carry on the conversation outside of it.
"That's alright," she said, her hand falling away from the doorknob. "What do you want to ask?"

"I want to know more about Ven. Where he comes from, how you know him. If, that's okay of course." He took a pause to collect his thoughts, tugging at one of the colored strings wrapped around his pinky. "...I can't ask him, so I figured you'd be the best person to ask."

"I can tell you," she replied. "But, can I ask what brought this on?" It wasn't that she didn't trust Roxas or anything, but she was a little iffy on giving out information on one of her best friends. She wanted to at least know why he was suddenly so interested.

"...well." The picking at the string got more obvious and less distracted. "Someone on the network brought up the possibility of...something, and I want to rule out the possibility." He hung his head somewhat, giving a sigh. "It makes me uncomfortable, but it's not important. I just want to rule it out."

"Who was the other mentor?" A pause, and he seemed to be getting more anxious-sounding. "Do you know where Twilight Town is? Has anyone ever mentioned it to you?" It was obvious she didn't want to explain about the 'something' that had happened, but he'd pulled the string completely off by then. He had to go through with this, even if he was getting a bit worked up. "What happened to him?"

"Xehanort...?" The name felt funny in his mouth, but he didn't even dwell on it. "Wait, darkness? How do you even do something like that ( ... )

Unconsciously, he'd already brought about Kingdom Key. The weapon seemed to startle him, but instead of dropping it, his hand just tightened. It took all his effort to throw the damn thing again, since he'd already learned how futile that was. It always just came back.
"I just don't get it! Why do I have it? I didn't ask for this, I just want to be normal." He eventually gave in, dropping the key at his feet and holding the side of his head. "Once I discovered it, I started seeing things, and weird things kept happening...those stupid cloaked guys trying to take me somewhere, and none of my friends ever even saw them! I keep blacking out, waking up in my bed, and none of it makes any sense! Who would want any of this?! I just want it to go away!" His voice cracked, but Roxas kept raving. "Now I'm apparently missing my memory, my friends are dead, and I might be some alternate, thing. I can't take all this..."

"A lot of people don't ask for it," said the magician softly as she ran her fingers up the length of Kingdom Key's shaft. "I'm sorry, Roxas." For the third time this conversation. "Do you want me to help you back to your room?"
Reply
"...I can manage." He wasn't about to get in to the fact that he wasn't keen on going to his room still. Kingdom Key was taken back, and dissolved in a flash of light soon after. "Thanks, though. Sorry I said all that... none of it's your fault." He finally looked up, trying very hard to keep an even stare but failing pretty spectacularly. "I...might take you up on that offer. Maybe."
He had some other things to take care of, first.

With that, she -- somewhat hesitantly -- reached up to gently smooth a hand over the spikes on top of Roxas' head, as she often did with Ven. "Good luck."
