One of the books I'm reading right now is the Three Hundred Poems of the Tang Dynasty (618-906). I'd read before Li Bai and Du Fu, the two poets widely considered the best of the Tang era. And when I read one of their joint collections, I agreed they were brilliant. Then I moved on without another thought about the environment that produced them

I've just finished Kay's River of Stars, which takes place in his Song Dynasty analogue, and I am reminded that I should really read the poems from the Tang.

And totally agree. I can only read about four or five poems at a time. There was this one long poem, though, that took my breath away and I had to read it all in one setting. As I was reading it, I kept thinking that you would love it. It's called Water's Footfall by Sohrab Sepehiri. Don't know, but something on a deep level just reminded me of you when I was reveling in those words. Miss you.
