I am starting to pack up my things for when I move out next year. It's a scary process but it might be easier to do now then later. I am a serious pack rat. I had no idea I was this bad.

Any tips on packing? Letting go of things?

Well, this is how it worked out for me so far:

Pack everything you know you will need, then assess how much more you can carry. Then pack what you think you'll need, in order of importance (be it for sentimental or practical reasons), and absolutely stop when you hit your limit ( ... )

Such good ideas. I have mostly been putting a lot of stuff into piles to give to the local second hand shops and so true about the books. I am so bad with that.

i moved out this past may for the first time and it was really exciting until the actual day i moved. i was so sad even though i was also so happy to be moving out.

i'm a huge pack rat too but i started cleaning up months before the move and i had a rule that if i hadn't worn or touched something in the last 6 months i threw it away or gave it away. that helped get rid of a lot of junk. i still ended up having a crap load of stuff to take with me but it would have been 100 times worse had i not gone through everything. and i've accumulated even more things since i've moved so jeebus help me when/if i have to move again.

Yes, I think that is a good rule to go by. I have a lot of clothes that are just taking up space so I might have to get rid of them. I have no idea what to do with my magazines. I can't just recycle them because that would break my heart and I have so many of them and I am sure they are worth something to someone. Silly expensive footie mags.

Lists help A LOT.

And packing things you KNOW you will need to use at a frequent and constant basis (ie: toothbrush, towel, utensils) narrow things down.

i´m kinda weird, but i love moving (i moved 5 times in 4 years, i think - but, now, as i love my apartment, home, i don´t wanna move, even i do like moving itself... that´s one of the reasons why people think i´m odd, just one of many ;D)

but, like others says, take stuff to recycle center, too - and that´s not only because i run one myself 8D haha! ermh. but we do get lot of stuff from people who move (starting from doors to clothings).

oh, and i collect everything myself, so well, letting go isn´t my strong point - but, i´m better with that now.

Paige! I miss you!

As for packing, I have serious trouble letting go of my things which, is not at all advisable because it only adds onto your luggage. So I would say whatever excess stuff you have, things that you no longer need, either sell them on ebay, or second hand shops or give them away. It helps to pick up the extra cash from the obsolete items. Also, buy packing boxes, like the ones they sell in IKEA because they pack a lot of things.

Good luck with packing <3!
