The Hunger Games-District 12 reaping
My parents sleep soundly…I wonder how could they? Knowing that there daughter could be facing a death sentence today, but then again there in no real risk so nothing to worry about right?
Wrong.
I, on the other hand can’t sleep at all. I’ve finally had enough of lying in bed, trying (and failing) going to sleep..I’m too nervous to do anything. I might as well get ready maybe try to ‘pretty myself up’ as my dad says.
But this is me. Jennet Clearwater. I live in district 12, poorest district in all the country. But my family is a little better off my mom comes from a richer family so were not dirt poor like some that live in the stream…
“Hey mom, this okay?” I know, a nice looking dress in district 12? Only for the reaping. We have to dress nice as the capital says..
“Do you have shoes on?” My mom asked. She should know the answer to that by now. I hate shoes so I try not to wear them. When she sighed I guess she realized she didn’t need me to answer that to know what I would say.
Suddenly she pulled me in for a hug, saying how much she loved me and stuff..I guess this is what ‘the hunger games’ do to people huh? Not knowing if your child will come back home or not..But hopefully luck will be on my side..
My dad did the same. Both of them realized that I could be going into the games and they could lose there daughter if they do. The games really make you think about things.
Maybe luck will be on my side for once.
But no, luck is never on my side. I heard my name being called, my name being blasted from the speakers. My name.
My mother looked down as did my father. I looked in disbelief..I’m a tribute. I’m going to be in the hunger games.
This is me, Jennet Clearwater and I am in the hunger games.

“Ash? Are you up?”
“Ash?!”
“ASH!”
“What is it Jake?! Can’t you see I’m trying to sleep here?!” I snapped. He should know better than to wake me up!
“Its reaping day..” His small voice trailed off, in an apologetic tone. Now I remember I don’t blame him for waking me up, I would wake me up to.
I got up and hugged him. He’s scared, we all are. No one knows who’s going in to these ‘games’ that the capital has come up with. He’s 12 and I’m 16 one of us could be going in to the games for all we know.
This is me, Ash Tale. I live here with my little brother and my older sister (Who is always out tramping around) We around the stream so were not very rich but we get by on what we can.
This is my little brother, Jake Tale. People say we look just a like but truth be told…I don’t see it.
But maybe for the first time in my life, luck will be on our side right?
Wrong. Dead wrong.
It wasn’t my name that was called, it was Jake’s. He’s only a child! I can’t let him do this! So as he made his way to the stage I cried out. “No! I’ll take his place!” They couldn’t turn me away. Anyone can take the place of a tribute in the reaping.
My name is Ash Tale, district 12 tribune for the hunger games.
And the odds are not in our favor.
